Yazhi's Shower

Well I suppose Yazhi can have a shower topic too. I have introduced him to faucet water before and he has always shown some interest. It wasn't until one day I had him with me while washing dishes they he decided to investigate closer. I made a little pool of water by cupping my hand and he would perch on the edge to take his bath/shower. Today was the second time he took his bath/shower but this time he really went under the water. It was hilarious to watch him just sitting under the flow of water all happy like. Eventually I intend to introduce him to the shower and see how he likes that, but for now the sink works. He takes baths in a bowl of water, but he really seems to enjoy the faucet. Here are some pictures of him after he got all wet.

OMG, it's the camera. Stand still so she won't see me...

Pretend you don't see her... maybe she will go away and let me dry myself.

Guess that didn't work. How about looking cute instead?

I wonder what is down there.. hm...

Hope you enjoyed the pictures...

very cute pics.... you just gotta love a wet, spiky bird

wrt to bathing - i think it's quite important for the birds to bathe, so i would encourage it. valo loves to hop into the sink with about 3-4cm of lukewarm (not too warm) water in it, and he just goes crazy. i bathe him about every 3-4 days and let him dry on/in a towel, depending on how he prefers it. [i got him into it by filling the sink, and just splashing around in the water with my fingers - he still will hold on to my hand though, so i get a partial shower too ]

Yazhi used to have fun splashing in water, but I feel he seems to enjoy the running water more. He gets all crazy into the stream of water. I say try to see if Shadow is interested in running water.

And I think it is funny how a wet bird smells like...lol

Love the wet hair look! Cosmo and Zoey like to bathe in the sink on a plate with the water running. Zoey will run back and forth under the water - Cosmo prefers to do the splashing, wing flapping and tail wagging kind of bath. Of course they also seem to find it a lot of fun to take turns dunking themselves in Cosmo's water dish! (they do that every day)

My GCCs have been known to go from water dish to water dish - like Goldilocks - sampling the quality of the water in each one! The just Love to bathe!

I'll have to let them try the sink sprayer some time. I never thought of that...

Yazhi doesn't have a water dish in his cage to bath in...hehe He sure knows how to use the water bottle though when he is thirsty. He can't make soup either. I do let him out a lot though and provide a huge water bowl for splashing with fresh water on a daily basis (plus cleaned after he uses it). He only goes dunking every few days, but now I think I will provide him with a chance to splash in the sink several times a week too.

Tuc turns up his beak at bathing in anything but his water dish. The couple times I put him in the sink he just hunched down and looked miserable. He does love to come into the shower with me (my friends think I'm crazy to shower with a bird) I have those little seat shelves in my shower and he stands on the edge and gets misted. He loves it!

I run about 2 inches of lukewarm water in my bathtub for my Sun conure's baths; that way he has plenty of room to splash without my worrying about getting water anywhere it shouldn't be. I also leave the spigot running at very low volume; my fid will literally run in water up to his waist to get under the stream of water, then he goes back to the middle of the tub and splashes to his heart's content.
