Charlie & Noel

I know that not everyone has met Charlie... Charlie is a mitred conure that suffered from a beak injury cause he thought he was big and bad against a blind macaw! HE "ruled" over 3 amazons so he sure thinks he's "tough stuff"! He's 12 years old, loves to be scritched ALL over, can't STAND being away from his chosen person, and generally speaking, is a brat! He's been here for about 3 weeks now, and I've been hoping that he and Noel would become buddies. For the most part, they've been able to see and hear eachother, but generally speaking were not close together. So, on Monday, I hoped that I could peacefully put them together on one of the gyms...

At first, things went pretty well.

I even had some music playing for them...

However, Charlie ended up getting too riled up for the likes of Noel when one of his favorite song, *Just Nineteen by Eagles of Death Metal* was played...

So in the end, the two of them had quite the little squabble and had to be separated. Hopefully in due time, they can have a friendship, but it'll take some time!

It's hard to say if Charlie's interested in becoming friends or not! Sometimes he wants to go after her being the jealous birdy he is, or chatter to her while I'm doing a small amount of beak work on Noel, or even "hang over" her when they sit on the same perch. Charlie seems to be more receptive of possibly having some sort of relationship, but Noel acts more "beak off" or "shy" towards Charlie. I don't know if Noel's ever been around any other 'big birds', so she could see Charlie as intimidating, and he sure can be.

Tried again today to see how well they'd do. Had to intervene a few times and tell Charlie to 'be nice' and he'd settle down for a while. Noel tried to get as far away from Charlie on the perch as she could, and both were less than a foot away from me so intervening was easy.

Very cool videos! Love Charlie. He's a ham. I think they'll become great friends.

The two are getting a little better at being near eachother, although Noel still shows no interest in being friends, so of course they still squabble.

When Charlie's in his cage, and he sees me, he tries his darndest to look very pathetic so I can go over and take him out! He doesn't like being in there, so when he wants out (and I'm in the room), he puts his beak inbetween the bars of the cage, lowers his body, just slightly opens up his wings, then starts to 'flutter' them... He can be very persistant about it, too!

This early morning though (not sure what time, it was dark), the tiels had a night fright, and Kirby banged himself pretty well against the cage (he kept flying straight into the corners of the cage and he wouldn't stop). It was nearly a nightmare getting him out, then once I got him out I had to hold him until he 'came to'. I was sitting down holding him, when I heard Charlie start saying "sit" or rather something that sounds pretty similar. He kept repeating it, too, so I'm not entirely sure if he's saying something badly (like when we tell the dog to sit), or if he heard a word, which in short, means "oh crap!".

Would bet $$ Charlie was *not* telling the dog to sit! He is notorious for saying a lot of questionable stuff - but thankfully saying it in a garbled enough voice that you can't quite tell it was a swear word - not for certain, anyway. His former owner was a musician and seems to have done a lot of swearing! Charlie picked up quite a large vocabulary!

Glad they're doing so well together! Glad he's doing better about begging to be let out of his cage (rather than just yelling endlessly). I think you're doing a great job with him!
And I can see that he's really happy there in his new home too!

Oh, he still yells! How much depends on each day. Since my mother isn't as afraid of him as she is Noel, she's been trying to handle him and give him scritches, but nothing short of me is good enough for him!!! She's trying, but Charlie has other plans!

The birds are okay, since it only seems it was a few tiels that freaked out, although I'm not sure over what other than possibly the heater coming on?

Charlie sure seems to act like a big macaw at times! He sometimes reminds me of blue and golds, n how they bang their beak against the cage bars!
