Second Bird

We have decided to start researching birds, as we would like to get a second bird in a year or so. My question is- how did your conure react to a second bird? And what types of birds do you have? Did they ever get along or do you have to keep them seperated all the time? And advice is appreciated. Thanks!

I added my Nanday to the flock, he was the newbie, and he does 'not' get along with them. I think there is a jealousy issue. I don't know if you'd have the same reaction with bringing a new bird in.
Any time Terrie or Azi come close, he gives his threatening stare.... feathers fluff on his neck, wings slightly raised away from his body and a slow, glaring head bob. I don't know what he'd do if he were actually to get his his claws (or beak) on one of them, but I wouldn't dare leave him alone with them.

Yeah, I've heard they can be jealous. I just wanted to say that your Nanday is gorgeous! I think they are so pretty- but I'm a little biased!

When I took in Noel, I had only a few budgies and Casey, my tiel. Noel didn't like any of them, however Casey was able to wedge herself into Noel's life, and cage! So now, the two are best buddies, and usually sleep together or live together... Even though Casey has free roam of my entire room. The only thing that prevents Noel entire free roam is her wings (since she cannot fly). Even though Noel likes Casey, I wouldn't trust Noel around any other bird.

Then when Charlie came (which was just last month), it's more like a few budgies, several tiels, a couple of bourkes, and Noel (cherry head). He's jealous of all the other birds if I pay attention to them, and he doesn't like any of them... but I hope to get Charlie (the mitred) friendly with Noel.

It really depends on the birds though, as some just magically get along instantly, some take a while to get along, and others never get along. Any updates though on the Blue and Gold???
