Talking Good Doyle!

Recently I was thinking that Doyle did not have enough greens in his diet, so I decided to give him Kale. Usually he is very picky with new food and we have to convince him to try it, and then he usually refuses to eat it after that anyways. But today I gave him Kale for the first time and he loved it!! I am so excited and happy!! I was feeling bad about him not getting enough variety! Next step is to gradually remove the seed and get down to just a few days a week with seed. Wish me luck!

Ok, this may sound mean but I figured a way to get Pumpkin to try new foods. Originally, he was afraid of tomatoes and would run away, so I chased him a little with it until he got angry and bit it. I could almost see the light bulb go on over his head and he looked like,"Oh, this tastes good." He's eaten it ever since.

Good luck!! I'm trying to cut down on the amount of seed Cosmo eats. He was on a diet of mixed pellets and seeds - of course he picks out the seed and leaves the pellets. He is however a pig when it comes to fresh and cooked foods - so at least I've got that on my side. Zoey never had seed till we brought her home (raised on pellets/fresh foods). I give her just barely enough to cover the bottom of her dish every other night. She's such a stinker though - she knows Cosmo has seed in his cage so whenever I'm not watching she heads straight for his cage and his food dish!

Have you tried putting fresh foods on a skewer for Doyle? Sometimes when my fids won't eat something I put in their bowl - if I offer it in a different way they'll try it out. (on a skewer, weaved through the cage bars ( a favorite here for big leafy greens!) wrapped in paper or a dixie cup, etc.) Sometimes they play with it more than eating it - but I figure it's better than completely ignoring it!

I haven't tried that, but those are good ideas! I love it when he tries something new! I think Doyle was completely on seed before but he eats mostly fresh stuff now. Apples being his favorite, but I think he's eating too much apple.

I cut a few, very thin slices of apple and spread peanut butter then layer it like a sandwich. I do it as a treat but Pumplkin loves it.

Oooh, I bet Doyle would love that! And that's really funny about the tomatoes, sometimes they just need a little encouragement.

it took me one big acting job to get casper to want to eat anything we eat.

i made a vegetable soup one day, sat down, (pathetically) overacted how great this soup was and ignored casper. she got curious, then kinda irritated that i was ignoring her for soup. so i offered her some and she gobbled it right up. she has eaten any fresh food we offer her since! must think we have good taste...

i should try kale. she needs more green stuff. she'd eat steamed carrots all day long if i let her. did you do anything to prepare it?

her regular diet is mostly harrison's, a couple of zupreem fruit pellets (usually 5-6 on top of the harrison's) and some carrot and potato at night.

doyle is a cutie, btw :)

Good boy Doyle. Its always exciting when they eat their veggies. The lady I got Nalah from did a good job cause Nalah loves her veggies. Hopfully she will be able to teach Romeo to eat his better. Crystal

I didn't do anything to it, he ate it raw. I never cook things for him, although I should. I hope when we get our next bird that he/she is as easy as Doyle.
