bird on top of my head-Help!
Hi just wanted to share that I got 4 nanday and 2 gold capped conures today. Supposedly breeders, but these beautiful guys are all pretty friendly meaning they do not try to attack me or anyting...and even step up on to my hand pretty easily. Oh boy and are they ever loud!
I was transfering them into their cages (and keep in mind the largest bird I have ever handled before today was a cockatiel...so I am a little nervous) And one of the nandays got loose and was flying all over the place because his wings are not clipped and would keep landing on my shoulder and bite at me if I tried to take him off.
The few instances I got him to climb onto my hand he would proceed to then fly back around the room and land on me again. I was freaking out inside cause I'm only wearing a tank top and he got long nails and a big beak and the little booger was pecking my bra strap too (grrrr)...well he finally got off of my shoulder because he found a better perch -ON TOP OF MY HEAD!!!! Oh I am sooooo glad he didn't poop!!!! Well half an hour later and after landing on my head about 10 more times, and my shoulders about 20 times which is all red and scratched up now, I finally got him on my hand and was just about to put him in the cage when the female jumps out and now they both proceed to climb up my bare arms on to the back of my neck where they were playing with my hair which I had in a pony tail ( I guess they thought it was a toy), and finally I just gave up and layed on the floor with them both still on top of me and they just sat on my back talking to each other like I wasn't even there...or maybe they were making fun of me. Anyhow, I finally got them in the cage...I had to bribe them with grapes and also dried apricots. I just thought I'd share my very first medium parrot bird story with everyone, and I can tell that this is going to be a huge learning experience for me.
Anyone have any helpful hints for me about these birds? Thanks a ton! Jessica
