Sun and CHC Getting along

We have a sun and a cherry headed. The cherry head (Jett) is a female and the sun is a male - they fight when left unattended (i.e. when they are sitting somewhere they can get to each other and you turn your back for a second) but if you hold both of them, the cherry headed always preens the sun (never vice versa cause the cherry won't let him).

Our sun is so good natured and friendly while the cherry can get really cranky, but can be affectionate on her terms only.

Is it generally true that Sun's are really good natured? Do they typically get along easily with other Sun's? My husband and I have been thinking about getting another Sun, but don't want to do it if the risk is high that our current Sun will not get along with a new Sun addition.

Alternatively, do the green cheeks have good natured personalities and get along well with others?

Thanks so much for thinking about these questions and any insight you have would be much appreciated!

Hi Jett. My sun gets along beautifully with my rainbow lorikeet. My GC who isn't h/r and will be a breeder bird (he's 3yo) thinks nothing of puffing up and having a go at the sun who then runs to me for cuddles. Yes she is a mummy's girl. From my limited experience I find that Dharma (my sun) just wants to be friends with everyone. Fidel the GC is just a little tyrant. Whether this is typical of GCs I'm not sure. I don't think it is and there's a difference between a h/r baby and a 3yo who has spent most of his time in an aviary. Fidel gets a girlfriend on the weekend so we'll see what happens. That's just my experience so far.

As what I've heard, green cheeks normally tend to be pretty friendly, at least towards other greencheeks.

My cherry head conure, Noel, only gets along with Casey, my first tiel. I've recently added a mitred conure, who seems to strut his stuff in front of Noel, however Charlie also bullies Noel. He did, at one time, have a friend which was a lilac crowned amazon... however he was known for bullying 3 amazons larger than himself! He also tried to bully a blind macaw, which resulted in the loss of half of his lower beak...

Since Noel and Charlie are practically complete opposites, Noel normally could care less about human interaction and is generally reserved and quiet... however, Charlie on the other hand is loud, is very needy, and a total goof!

It's good to see you around here again, I hope you keep in touch more frequently! Would love to have some updates!
