Call me crazy...

Well, stupid Hayley was scrounging buysell for some cages when she came across the following ad...

Quote:
Sun Conure,

Approx 3yrs old, beautiful colours, friendly, male, outgoing personality, a real comic, exc family pet, incl cage & toys, exc Christmas gift, $800.
Now, I have always been a sucker for suns, ever since I fell in love with a $2000 cutie at Petsmart. But I have heard horror stories about the noise. So I went on YouTube, (gotta love it!) found a clip of a screaming sun, turned my volume up to full blast...

and it wasn't even HALF as loud as Freddie!

So I talked to my parents, and they agreed to consider it!

What do you guys think? I would try and talk them down on the price, as I could easily get a sun here in canada for $600 from a breeder. Does anyone have any stories or reccomendations?

Thanks!

It took me 5 years of thinking before I got my sun. I wish had done it years ago. They are noisy, but I have a 'too and a lorikeet so she's nothing compared to those 2 when they get going. The lorikeet can out scream the sun any day and imitates her.
I'd get a h/r from a breeder. You have more of an idea what you're in for. Ask the breeder if you can come and look at their suns so you can guage the noise for yourself. I think the pairs in aviaries are generally noisier then a single sun, but you may also find with your flock they all set each other off. My advice.

If you can get a handraised sun for $600, how much would the final cost be, including cage, toys, perches, etc? I think that if you are really interested in getting a bird, to either take in a bird in need or go through a rescue... but that's just IMO.

Quite frankly, I think this is a rather good deal.

As a rough estimate, I would say suns would cost around $500-600, a good cage $250, toys, food etc... $150. But that's a very rough estimate, and I still have to check out the cage too.

I'm not interested in buying anymore birds from breeders- I started off easy with a hand tamed poicephalus, and now i'm moving up to greys with issues and noisey suns. I'm going to see what I can do about this sun, but the phone number (I didn't attach it) wasn't working.

I'll keep checking.

I got my sun from a breeder & paid $350 for her. She can be loud but I was prepared for that. I love her dearly & wouldn't trade her for anything. She is great. I think that is a good deal. Bird, cage, toys, etc. for $800. Crystal

Well, $500-$600 CAD is $438-$526 USD. $800 CAD is about $700 USD. Suns here usually cost $300-$400 max, although they can be found for cheaper. Let us kow what you decide! Conures are fantastic birds, but suns especially can be noisy!

I reread the advert and it does sound good with the cage etc. included. I saw the "exc. Xmas gift" and kinda wondered about that. Best of luck with your decision.
