Question (Travel)Carrier??

I dont have any kind of Travel Carrier and I was wondering what else I can use other than this...
I have a Cat Carrier but, it is kind of big so, Im not sure if this is to big for my Sun Baby...
It is the same thing as this:

The grate in the front of it I believe is 1"x1" so Im thinking this might be to big???...The actual Crate size is: 17" long, 11" wide, 9" high
What else can I use as a carrier???? hmmm....

I would think that that's probably fine, if you can put some towels in the bottom of it (after making sure it's well cleaned and wire brushed down with a vinegar/water solution if it's not stainless steel), or maybe even a perch if you can put a stable one in there! If you think the front openings are too big, I'm sure you could rig a piece of wire mesh over the front (once again scrubbed with vinegar/water to ensure it's clean).

I would recommend the Adventure Pack (I have 2 them). You can get them online for $87.00 plus shipping. Here is a link: http://www.claviaryonline.com/adventurepack.html

Now that's a hacienda!!! Like Monica said, if you clean it out thoroughly and put towels down, you should be fine. You can even add a perch and some food and water bowls that can attach to the front grate for long trips. Why spend extra money if you don't have to, right? Hey, I'm sure his regular cage is three times that size!

Yup, perfect carrier for conures, Not sure of the size of mine, But the one the conures came in had a perch in it allready... Pretty permanently in it as in there would be 2 nice holes on either side of it if i took the perches out. But its perfect for the 2 of them. they hop around latch onto the side for te drive then calm down and sit on the perch together. I used a similar sized one for Lola, Except the Top can open up which makes is 100 times easier to get her in an out. And the best part was... It was free! You can easily pick up a nice crate like youve got there for under 10-15$ and they make wonderfull bird carriers, without looking overly tacky And monicas idea with the wire mesh is great! So i think youre all set there with youre new birdie carrier!

Rick, That Carrier looks great!!
I just dont have an extra $87 to spend...and I guess mine will work fine!!. I do have extra wire mesh I can put over the front...Which will work great...The holes in the front will also provide a place to put a food and water bowl! :)
I will make sure to scrub the carrier...
THANKS!! It eases my mind a to know that the carrier will work ok! Later on I will have to get a better one for any vet visits or trips I might need/want to take with him!!

I have enough set aside right now for a vet visit and maybe a couple extra things but, not enough to buy a carrier right now...
When should I take him in for a vet visit? Did all of you take your babies in when you brought them home or did you just take them when the need arises??
I have a WONDERFUL Avian Vet picked out so, that isnt a problem! Its great to because she lives not even 2 minutes away from me..So, if any emergencies arise I can get any of my birdies there quickly!!!
I also know of an all night emergency clinic for pets that stay open 24/7....So, its another number I have written down! We had to take my boyfriends Moms dog there and they were great!
Im just wondering is a vet visit Necessary if the baby is healthy??
I know their are different opinions on this....So, would like to hear them all!

My Budgies werent taken to the vet when I brought them home...They seemed healthy and happy!

My Carrier has these little black things that you pop off...you can see them in the picture...But, you pop them off and the whole top comes off...Its not to convenient but, it works!

Most carriers having something like that although most have bigger clip thinges ( whatever their called) it keeps the 2 peices together, i honestly think that carrier would be perfect for years to come. Plus their sooo much easier to clean! When we got Lola we borrowed one of those silly "bird carriers" and she HATED it, It got hot in there too quickly and didnt provite good ventelation, and she didnt like the idea of being all cramped up like that. i would by a dog carrier 100 times over before i ever concidered a "bird" carrier for my birds.

If you're going to use a big thing like that, then I recommend getting a perch and screwing it into the carrier, put some towels and padding on the bottom and you're good to go.
