Question Do Sun's Pluck?

I'm looking into adopting a Sun Conure from a college student from the college I work at and she's had him a while, she states he's a friendly bird but his belly is bald and he plucks mildly. i have not seen him yet, but will this weekend, I am not sure how sever his condition is. I've never heard of a Sun plucking but I know all birds can and will. Could someone give me insite as to why he might be doing this? from the way she talks she takes good care of him just isn't able to spend alot of time with him as she would like. And that could be a factor i'm sure, but are sun's that tempermental as TOO?
Should I adopt him and bring him into my home. He'll have his own room with the others after his 45 day seperation. If I do take him in he'll go directly to the vet for a check up of course and would he be fitted for a "lamp shade?" Thank you for any info.

Loneliness, abuse, stress, etc can bring on plucking. It's a distress habit that's hard to get rid of.
I've known many birds who pluck and actually Pickles, our Parrotlet who is coming home around Christmas, is a plucker. There's not much you can do about it and you love the bird anyway. Hopefully in happier times, the bird will cease the feather mutilation and find some nice toy to chew on. Otherwise you'll always have a plucked bird that you can love.
A lamp shade would just distress the bird even more, you should buy him a bird sweater. See him first, then decide.

Collar is probably the word your looking for.... Suns are probably not as neurotic as the big cockatoos are, but they are probably some of the most, if not THE MOST neurotic conures out there... and this is due to the fact that they CAN be noisy, and VERY demanding. Suns along with jendays are some of the most popular conures bought because of their beauty, and possibly even the most rehomed due to their noise...

Can't really find any pics of plucked suns right now, but you can view this site for some plucked conures...
http://www.the-oasis.org/bird_tour.p...s&class=conure (1 jenday, several others)

My cherry head is, for the most part, an ex-plucker/mutilator, but she still has her down times... and of course there's one of the tiels too who is a bit of a plucker/clipper/mutilator....

Oh, forgot to mention, the sun could possibly be plucking do to something she is or is not doing... the only way for you to find out for sure is to see the bird and its living conditions... otherwise you wont be able to know at all.

My 1st bird was a Sun Conure, and he was a beast to begin with then he became a sweetie and I adored him. When I lost him my heart ached, it was a year before I got another bird and I got something more beasty than Paco was, My Ring Neck! I will see him I hope this weekend and make a decision.

It's important to take a plucking bird to the vet to rule out any medical problem that could be causing the behavior.

If I get to meet Jo JO this weekend, and bring him home, he will go see a vet for sure.
