GCC's and sun

I have a minor problem. At the moment the GC's are inside while I get around to getting their aviary sorted. Everytime they come out and the sun (Dharma) is out they decide to go and pick on her. At first I thought it was just Fidel but Juanita has started too. They don't touch the lorikeet, but seem to make a beeline for Dharma. (little ferals). In the short term I'm obviously going to have to have to have out of cage time at different times. It's only a matter of time before one of them really hurts Dharma. Any other suggestions? Longterm they'll be outside, hopefully within the next couple of months.

THats probably the best thing to do if they won't leave her alone. That or in seperate rooms where they can't get to her. Luckly my macaws ignore my sun conure. Her cage is on the other side of the room & since the macaws can't fly they don't go over there. Bonita mostly stays on her cage anyway. Crystal

Maybe it's a similar colour issue. I've noticed that Chaska gets along with Manikay because he is also green, she grudgingly accepts Tjinimin because he stands up to her and won't back down and she is OK with Manu and Koro who are primarily yellow. She doesn't like my grey cockatiels-Maui and Tiki. My bird room is large enough that they just avoid her. But I have often wondered about the colour thing. So maybe your GCCs like birds that are similar in colour to them-mostly green, but they don't like yellow birds?

You could be on to something with the color issue Tara, I never considered that. I have to keep close watch on Quito when both she and Tausi are out. She is very insistent on visiting his playstand, and he doesn't like it at all. And he's got a pretty impressive beak that could do a number on her! I try to get them out at the same time, but Quito usually ends up in her cage in "time out" mode quite a bit. If you can't really control them, I think the only option is to have separate "out" times.

My feeling is that there are many GCC traits in play here. Quito is fearless, cheeky, stubborn, aggressive, beaky, persistent, confrontational, and hates it when you try to tell her what not to do. Don't get me wrong, I love the little darling, and she can be very sweet, but I believe GCC's are "squabblers" by nature.

In all fairness, Tausi doesn't want anything to do with her either. The difference is that Quito will tease Tausi unmercifully, whereas Tausi just ignores Quito unless she invites herself onto his playstand. Quito is fully flighted, and Tausi's flights are growing in. Gonna be interesting.

I agree with Tara and the color issue. Hera and Zeus both are fine being next to Blue, Jack or Eleanor the blue Parakeets, Guinevere steers clear of them so they dont see her, but they try SO hard to nibble on Zach's green wings. They dont care about the other 3, but Zach just looks tasty to them I guess.
