Swaps again (Are you surprised?!)
:D More pics from this morning via camera phone!
I think he really is starting to like it when i scratch him now. when i started scratching his head, i approached him with my fingers from behind him, because i thought i'd get a good nip if i came front ways...so the result is that when he wants a head scratch, he looks up/leans back...its really funny! I know i was just asking about cuddlyness/scritches like yesterday, goes to show you you really just have to be patient, lol. Oh, i have heard you should keep the scritching to the head/neck area so your bird doesn't think you are his/her mate. Can someone confirm/deny? Swaps will let me touch his back now, but i don't want to encourage anything! Anyway, more pics! I don't give him millet all the time (like it never sits in his cage) but i give him a bite as incentive to hang out when he's outside, if he steps up a bunch of times, or lets me scritch him, etc. A reward, basically. He was so funny, usually i hold it out and he takes a bite and then i put it behind me...but this morning he tried to grab it and hold on for dear life so it wouldn't "disappear". ![]() Inside the new crib (he does have more perches on the other side, with his toys, don't worry!)... ![]() You can see his pin feathers here. Awww i just LOVE him! ![]() Its funny, i researched green cheeks before i got Swaps, but somehow, even after reading everything about them, it just didn't sink in that they are "nippy" birds. Its so worth it though...Swaps knows what "Up" means and while he does nip sometimes, he's never broken the skin and he has pretty much stopped gnawing on the finger that he's sitting on when he's perched on my hand (which hurt SO BAD). Things are going great!!! ![]() |

swaps is so cute! he looks a lot like shadow, espically now because shadows got pin feathers growing in everywhere, and a bunch on top of his head like swaps does now too.
shadow also likes to hold his own treats. i try to feed it to him out of my hand but he rips it out of my hand and hold it.. he likes to sit on my hand and eat treats, but he prefers to hold it himself. i think its so cute watching him hold a huge treat with his little foot

great pictures! you're lucky that swaps doesnt bite and break skin. darn, when we first got ozzy, he bit harder than my amazon! (its probably because when they bite, they pinch hard and TWIST!) lol but he and i have calmed down a lot since then, now he is pretty much the boss of everyone in our home. lol

There's something in I think the Ekkie forum about it. Somewhere anyway with an Ekkie girl who's possibly getting hormonal. Sandra (GSC2) gets all twitchy when you touch her back so yeah, I'd stick to the head neck area for scritches. GCCs do seem to be fairly nippy, but how can you go past the cute factor.
