How long does it take to clean a cage?????

Hello,

I responded to an ad on Craigslist.
Here is what it said.

"need to find a new home for my squawky friend. 100. adoption fee.
comes with a cage, not a very good one, but youre welcome to it.
shes a little to chatty for my tastes. probably needs someone home."

So, the woman wrote back to me and we set up a date. Last night I drove over. Poor girl. Two toys in her cage a small ball and a mirror. On a cockatiel seed and the cage caked in poop.
I asked a couple of questions and I was told that she got it for very little money from a friend of hers who did not want it. She had her (I was told she is a female) since six months, but she was way too noisy for her. Her name is TC, three years old and was not let out of the cage nor being offered anything else to eat but cockatiel food.

When I walked over to her I saw that she was seeking interaction. She was bobbing her head and stayed close to the cage bars.
Anyhow, I paid 80 dollars and brought her home. I let her settle in over night and decided to clean the cage in the morning. I do not have a better cage yet, but will get one.
So, I cleaned the filthy cage and when I was going to clean the top part I figured I could do the best job if TC was out of her cage and I could clean it in the shower. So I stuck my hand in the cage and asked her to step up. She did not. So I tried petting her head and as soon as I touched her she fluffed up and enjoyed being touched. She closed her eyes and just loved every moment. She then walked up my arm out of the cage and onto my shoulder. So that is where she stayed. I cleaned the cage and gave her fresh food and water and toys. She did not want to step up so I put my shoulder to the cage and she climbed up and went right to the door and inside the cage. I think she was exhausted with all the stimulation. She is eating fine and to my surprise was also eating some of the Zupreem fruit blend I offered her.
She is so incredibly pretty and sweet that I am already in love.
Anyhow here are some pictures.
I am sure I will post more. I was going to find a good home for her, but I do not know if I can let her go. If there is someone out there that would love to have her, I will certainly consider it. I live in Collegeville, PA. I just want her to be happy!

Hello again,

thanks for the kind words.
The reasons for finding her a permanent homes are.
We own a small house (large yard, but small house). My Greys are in the living room and there isn't really a good spot to put her in a bigger cage. Right now she is in my sons room away from my TAGs for at least one month! If I had a bird room, no problem! But we don't.
My husband is not a bird person. He tolerates my TAGs only because he knows they are my passion.
And then I would probably get another conure because I believe everyone should have a friend of their own kind (but that is just me!). And I do not want to open up a can of worms here. I know there are a lot of birds happy in their human relationship and would probably not accept a feathered friend.
So, I think I should let her go to someone that will take excellent care of her and be happy.
Anyhow, her are some more pics I just took! She is sooooooooooooo sweeeeeeeeeeeeet!

Oh I have a question. TC has a lot of pin feathers on her head that hurt her when I try to pet her. Is there a way of gently opening them without pulling on them to much and make her uncomfortable?

I think you just gently massage them out. I would take her to, she looks just like my max and he is soo sweet. they are very loving birds. I'm in Fla. so I cant help you. You may just fall in love and not want to part with her. Glad you saved her.

I think the pins only hurt when they are still coming in, and I wouldn't mess with trying to open them up then. If you wait until they are all the way through, you can gently rub of the waxy bits and she should love it! When Darwin is getting new pins in (like right now!) he likes it when I just give his head a rub down, and I could probably sit there all day and rub his face! But if it is bothering her, I wouldnt push it :)
She looks so sweet n those pics!

Baths or misting will ease the pinfeather discomfort somewhat and aid in them comming off.
