New baby conure

Hello all,

I was looking for a quaker, but found out that they are illegal to own in Georgia, USA. What I loved about quakers were their being very friendly and ability to talk.

Conures also seem so cute. I have seen some youtube videos. It looks like they can also talk quite well, and are very close to their owners.

Does anyone have any suggestion to me about where I can have a look to find some baby conures?

Thanks!

If you want one that will be close to you, I would get a baby from a breeder or find one that you bond with at a local rescue. Many conures are not known for their abilities to talk, so you might want to think about getting an adult that already talks (if that is important to you). Babies are never a guarantee, even the better talking species :)

one thing you gotta remember is that sun conures are VERY LOUD.

i'm talking like ear splitting screeches...

if that bothers you get a different conure.

Check out Tango's Flock Home they are listed in the back of birdtalk magazine. They also have blue crowns like my Pollo.I would be happy to answer any questions on living with these species for you.....Check that I guess they don't breed blue crowns anymore, but the suns are there.

I want to go with a baby conure, just to be close and to teach some fun stuff.

I loved your conure, Tena. I can go have a look what breeds they have.

By the way, are sun conures as loud as african greys? Would my neighbors complain about it?

Thanks cybljon, sun conures have a piercing high call.If you can visit a breeders facility you will hear it for yourself. They tend to have a morning and evening chorus that lasts around 20 minutes. If your conure finds he can get you to come running by screaming he will, so it is best to ignore them when they do scream. The pyrrha[sp] conures...green cheeks, maroon bellies and black caps are thought to be quieter than suns, but there are exeptions to the rule.I don't have a grey,so I can't give you a comparason. If you live in an appartment, you may want to talk with your neighbors about it first.Know too that most parrots are silent after dark,it's only the daylight hours that they vocalize.

I have 4 nanday conures, 2 greencheeks, and 1 cherryhead. with the exception of the greencheeks, they have shrill ear splitting screams, that could melt paint from your wall. When I first brought them home, I did use ear plugs, because my inner ear would vibrate from the screaming!!!!! Now, I am used to it, but hubby runs away when they start screaming!! My african grey makes noise, but not screaming, he whistles, mimics our voices, his past owners voices, does car alarms, mimics my dogs, it is actually alot of fun to listen to him, when he doesn't know we are listening, he's hysterical, and when my cherry head starts getting too noisy, he tells her to knock it off, he kills me!!!!! I have also heard him making fun of my senegal, by mimicing what he says, but in a nanna nanna nanna kind of voice, he has a sense of humor!!!
Greencheeks would probably be okay in an apartment, and they can learn to talk, I've seen some cuties on utube. The best thing is to hear them at a breeder, or big bird store, you get a better idea OF THE VOLUME! When I was looking at my nandays, they were in the same room with suns, and jendays, and cherryheads, and oh my god, we had to leave the area to talk.
I live in a house, and they have their own room, so it doesn't bother me, and they are calming down a little more. Only one nanday pair is loud, actually the other pair is quiet most of the time, but they have moments also!!! In an apartment those moments may be enough to bring you trouble with neighbors. But, you really have to witness the sound for yourself.
Good Luck!

It sounds like you live in Georgia, but couldn't tell for sure. I live in Florida but have bought my birds from a breeder in Fort Gaines. She has sweet birds (green cheeks, suns, and peach-front). Her aviary name is "Green Acre Farms"

I live in Georgia. I actually had a look at Tango's Flock's web site, and want to go see what they have. But I could not find their address. Does anybody know?

We have a Sun who is almost a year old. Bought her from a local breeder/pet store and we finished hand feeding her there. She does scream but it isn't for any amount of time generally. The main time she "yells" is when I drive into the driveway - then she screams until I get into the house...then she is fine.

Good luck finding the perfect one for you!
