Green Cheek Cinnamon Conure Information

Anyone know how long a Green Cheek Conure lives? Depending on who you ask you get an answer from 10 years to 25 years.

I am hoping it is close to the 25 years as I just love the crazy bird!

Also...my vet says you should limit the food on a conure so they don't get fat. My conure has 3 dishing in her cage - 1) one with a mix of seeds/pellets for conures, 2) one with apples, grapes and oranges and 3) another with Zupreem. The only thing I limit is the seed/pellet mix as I know there is not much nutrients in sunflower seeds. The bird loves the fruit and Zupreem. The bird is really active (eats alot) and seems in really good shape. Should I be limiting the fruit or Zupreem? Her diet is around 40% fruit, 40% Zupreem and 20% seed/pellet mix.

Thanks for any help/feedback!

the life expectation is directly correlated to the diet and exercise the bird gets... just like with humans
25yrs is no problem for a greencheek who's on a good diet and gets plenty of exercise.

as indicated by my answer above, i totally agree with your vet - you gotta make sure your bird eats healthy and keeps a good weight range. especially if the bird's wings are clipped, this is strongly related to the diet (my guys are flighted and burn a lot of calories just racing around the house).

i have a few improvement suggestions for your bird's diet:
*) he doesn't need a see/pellet mix AND a pellet dish - as a matter of fact, my guys only get a pellet dish overnight and if i take their breakfast or dinner out early so it doesn't spoil
*) though fruit are good, it should only be fed in moderation - 40% is too much. fruit contains a lot of simple sugars.
*) your birdie should also get a lot of fresh veggies - in fact that's the best food you can feed your birdie... fresh veggies with sources of protein and complex carbohydrates. veggies: carrot, broccoli, kale, cooked sweet potato, tomatoes, bell peppers, chilli peppers etc.... there's almost no end to the list (exceptions: no avocado, no uncooked onions and garlic, some people also recommend against feeding raw mushrooms). for the protein you can rely on the pellets or also feed legumes, sprouted seeds etc.
*) if your birdie's picky, you can cook the veggies into a birdie bread.... our guys love this one Birdie bread for amateur bakers

did that help as feedback?
