no you're not - you should definitely look for a bird that connects with you from the start... it's easier that way, though it's feasable too to develop a bond with a bird that doesn't pick you
green cheek conures (GCC) CAN develop some speech, though it's not all that common that they exceed 10-20words at the best. valo babbles, that's how i can describe it best. he sometimes mumbles something like "good boy", "mama" and "come here" but it's probably only understandable to me. he's very very playful, and he's sort of quiet - and what i mean with that is that in the mornings and evenings he generally has his 3-5min where he just screatches. GCCs are the quietest of the conures, but that is relative in the sense that it depends on the bird and conures in general are not the quietest species to begin with. suns and jendays have a higher volume than GCCs but again, it strongly depends on the bird - our ms. bella girl outperforms valo by a long shot when it comes to volume, but she doesn't scream often at all. senegals are not conures, and i have very little experience with them - i'm sure you'll get answers from people with more knowledge about them. when it comes to attachment - valo is very attached to me, but you can see the bonding to one person in almost any species really. all conures are playful and need a fair amount of attention - the first thing to ask yourself is how much time you have per day on a consistent basis. i recommend about 2-3hrs minimum per day during the week and more on the weekends. that's a personal suggestion, i'm sure you'll hear people recommending more time (which i do too), but i think if you don't have 2-3hrs you shouldn't be getting a bird (JMO). feel free to ask more questions - we'll try to answer as best as we can... welcome to BB, by the way ![]()

My Sun Conure, Seiko, is very loving towards both me and my boyfriend. He is always playful, and he actually cuddles in bed with us. Its the cutest thing ever. He can be loud, but most of the time he isnt loud. He gets loud in the morning if we dont wake up early enough, and if the vacuum cleaner is going. He hasnt started talking yet, but he mimicks our tone. But then again hes still under six months old.
Dont know too much about Senegals though, sorry. Hope that helped, and welcome to BB

Hi I would like to know does the Green Checked Conures have some vocabulary words ..?
Green cheeks aren't known for their vocabulary, however some have learned to talk, and some have learned to talk clearly. Please don't base your judgement on a birds ability to talk... as you might end up getting a bird who's SPECIES is known for talking however your bird may never talk. I understand they are playful and quiet not loud.. very attached to some people.. I guess noise is a relativity... To me, they have a high pitched screach if they ever go off.... however I have two aratingas, one who's quiet and you might just not know that she's there, and the other who makes SURE you know he's there and he wants attention NOW!!!! Usually speaking, they do tend to be quieter than the aratingas. Green cheeks also tend to be VERY nippy however with proper training this can be gotten rid of. Other than that, if you get a young conure or an adult who hasn't gone through any trauma they tend to be very playful and cuddly birds. What about the Sun Conures... Jenday Conures.. Suns and jendays are known for their LOUD OBSESSIVE screaming, however not all scream. They are primarily bought for their bright colors, and sold, dumped, or given away due to their noise. If you care for one of these birds correctly, they can be great companions who are cuddly, talkative (at least in their own speech), and full of fun! and Senegal Conures .. Senegals are not conures. They belong to the poicephalus family. Personally, I kind of prefer the jardines or the cape parrot as I've heard better things about those two as compared to the sennies... however, there are quite a few sennie owners who just ADORE their birds! Full of personality, spunk, etc! They can learn to talk but I can't say I've heard much about them speaking. You need to look at the poicephalus chat to learn more about them. are they all about the same as the green cheeked conures ..? I'm cerious to see what the different in their personality and their habits. I need to some idea what I'm about to get into before I get one .. All birds are individuals, even within the species. We could give you general descriptions of each species but that does not mean the bird will "fit the bill". Conures for example are known for being loud, needy, cuddly, etc. Noel on the other hand is very hands off, less she wants to be taxied somewhere, is very quiet compared to most the other birds, and as long as she has all she needs she'll do her own thing. but I'm still doing more research on other birds I picked out of five breeds but down to three kinds as it take time to settled down with one I'm going for .. Unlike dogs or cats, we have species, not breeds. The closest we can come to breeds in the parrot world are the english/show budgies as well as the longfeather peachfaced lovebirds. Heck, for all I know we may have breeds in finches and canaries, too! But I don't know for a fact... Parrots have been in captivity and bred for a lot shorter time period than we've had cats and dogs, thus we may see mutations but not breeds. Your best bet however is to choose a species, then go and interact with several birds. With any luck, a bird of the species that you are interested in will choose you. However, you might just come home with a different species altogether! (I nearly felt the connection with one of cockatoo at bird store in my area as he reach out with his claw and wrap it around my finger when I was talking to him.. just caught in my heart I never felt before with the bird.. but I can't have him cause he had to be with a single woman as he dont like men.. period) . That the kind of connection I'm trying to search for .. Am I being silly for feeling that way ...? It would definitely help to have a bird that interacts with you and your husband before you buy the bird. However, some birds may end up choosing one person over the other, which may result in more birds! Most cockatoos are actually pretty friendly with strangers, at least that is what I've noticed. However, if you have a bird pick you, you need to ensure that you know how to properly care for the bird and knows all that it entails... i.e. a larger parrot will require a larger cage for toys, perches etc. The larger the bird the more destructive it'll be... thus will cost more in the long run... Some species of specific diets that they may need... etcHowever, no you aren't silly for thinking that way! I have yet to be able to bring home a bird I just "cliqued" with, since most of my birds are actually rehomes... however the closest I come to a bond like that is with Charlie, whom I've had since October of 05! As well as Casey whom I've had for 5 1/5 years!
