Scary Morning

I just cant believe I almost lost my Tiki to stangulation this morning. I would like to say that I do check the toys before I give to him. This is just a lesson learned and I wanted to share.

I feed Tiki after I get out of the shower in the morning. But today my Dog Sadie came running in the bathroom and then running away. I thought she must really have to pee this morning. I "try" to finish brusing my teeth and she is now freaking out. So I follow her. I here tiki playing with something and he seemed mad at it. Well the dog did not go to the door but to Tiki's cage.

I opened the cage and he is stuck to his preening toy. It is that toy with a tone of cut yarn on it so he can clean it rather than pluck himself. I am like OMG.. I assumed it was a piece wrapped around a feather. So I am holding him and he is just freaking out, squaking, biting at me. I get the toy off of the cage and bring him and the toy to outside of the cage where his porch is.

I start to look at where the toy is hooked on him. OMG....it is wrapped around his neck. Now my heart is just beating out of my chest. I un-twist it and he pulled his head out. I then picked him up to make sure he is okay..and he is saying "good boy" over and over and over.

He then hopped in his happy hut, I about died, and the dog then needed to go outside. I looked at the toy and belevie it or not but that was the only part of the toy not cut like the rest of it.

What a morning. I am glad I listened to my dog or we could have lost him. And I guess I will double double check toys more now.

Wow, what a great dog! Give them extra treats! That is so scary too, I am glad you listened to your dog. My dogs once saved my leopard gecko from the cat, it was a similar situation they were so freaking out!

Thank you everyone. At the end ofthe day, Tiki is doing just fine. He is just like his normal self...thank god.

My dog Sadie is still checking on him...just making sure. She is still wiped from the experience.

I am glad to know that the "whole" family loves Tiki.

What a good dog! I had a scary incident similar to yours. My bird tore the ringer part of a bell off and it was wedged between her beak. It took a pair of pliers to get it out. I was so worried she would swallow it. Just goes to prove you need to check toys often. When I went to check the other bells, I noticed she had torn off a few more ringers. Thankfully they were at the bottom of the cage!

On a fun note-my bird (pineapple green cheek) is named Tiki and our dog (black lab/chow) is named Sadie! We also have a cat named Tigger.
