no, EXCEPT if there's any over-growth which is a medical condition - beak trims should only be done if the vet recommends it

Hi! New member here. How do we know if the beak is over-grown? Also, is it a concern if the cere looks dry? I've only had Rigel for 3 weeks, and he is 3 months old today.

can you post a picture of your birds beak?

generally, you could compare the beak to pictures of other birds of the same species from the internet. also, if you're concerned that your bird's beak is abnormal, bring him to an avian vet to have him/her take a look to decide whether the beak needs trimming or not.

the beak can flake a little bit - that's normal. unless it's a lot, then agian bring him to a vet.

what kind of bird do you have?

I have a green-cheek also. He's not having problems with his beak, I was just wondering how to know if it got too long. He's started using the little perch for filing his beak too, so I don't think it'll become a problem.

I have pictures of him, but I can't get up close without him moving and blurring the shot :)

Thanks!
