Angry Help with inconsiderate spouse

Hi All,

I wake and feed the bird first thing when I wake up at 7am, and put him to bed at 7 or 8 pm depending on if he is beak grinding or already dozing on his perch at 7.

My hubby doesn't believe having the TV on at night is going to disturb my little guy's sleep. Its driving me up the wall that he's being so inconsiderate! I've compiled pretty much every resource and of course they all say 10 hours of quiet and dark sleep is the minimum. Hubby insists that "birds in the wild live in the jungle where its always loud." Nonsense. Of course its never silent because that means there is danger close by, but they certainly don't have TV flickering and shows with explosions and yelling. The TV didn't go off tonight until 11pm.

My only other solution (because Hubby is so stubborn) is to put a sleep cage in the bedroom. I'm concerned that the morning alarm will be stressful for him. Opinions?

have you covered the cage? I have a lory, she puts herself to bed at around 9:30, the TV is commonly on til 11. she just tucks right in, doesn't seem to bother her. And I cover the cage (I'm not consistent) if we have the lights on.

she also has a happy hut, and my GCC LOVED hers... it is a dark little den for them, so maybe that would help also.

Thanks, I have heard great things about happy huts and he's so snuggly I'm sure he'll love it. Did you have trouble with her chewing out the stuffing?

i cover the fids cages once it's bedtime, but i keep the TV on some nights... doesn't seem to disturb them that much; however, i try to keep the volume on the lower end

I'm no expert, but I don't think the morning alarm would be stressful. Just think of it as the morning call of the rest of the flock

I think it's hard to expect your hubby not to watch TV, so if you could put the bird into a different room, that seems like the most workable solution... unless hubby is going to be nasty to the bird when it starts vocalizing alongside the alarm.

tiki has a sleep cage in a quiet room. rest is very important if you want a bird that behaves well.

shes only had her happy hut for a month, its in perfect condition, but lories aren't the chewers that conures are.

I had a home-made one for my conure, I just sewed 2 pieces of fleece together, and she layed on her back in it every night. the CUTEST thing I've ever seen!
