I KIND OF have a Green Cheek Conure!!

Ok I have always said that after my alex my next bird is a Green Cheek Conure....Well on Sunday my nana and auntie asked me to come with them to the bird fair in the city which i wanted to go to but didnt have anyone to go with. So i went with $70 in my pocket for pretty much toys. No toys caught my eye so i figured well, I dont want to buy toys i dont think Matches will play with. Then i did the worst thing i could...I went into the bird hall...OMG so many birds! My nana bought 2 bourke's. There were Green cheeks there for $50 but they were psycho and about 2 years old! Then i saw some for $70 that were about 6 months old who were parent raised and not tame.

This little girl caught my eye. She was the youngest and the least scared but still not tame. With $70 in my pocket i kept walking away and coming back until i finally couldnt walk out without her...$70 later I got my DNA sexed female Green cheek conure. She was the youngest too. (I got a sexing certificate so its a she). I got her home and clipped her wings cos there is no way i will be able to tame her flighted as she hasnt been handled.

She is living in Matches travel cage at the moment.

The Dilemma: MY DAD! He said i have to give her away. He said he isnt having 2 birds in the house. I havent spoken to him since. I will at least have to tame her but i have a feeling i might be able to end up keeping her. I have never asked him for money for Matches or to do anything for her. It's not fair. My brother has open access to my dads wallet cos he is a bum. I had a job at his age and paid for everything myself but he gets everything paid for. GRR...If not then i might be able to give it to mum but i think i might be able to work it out.

I can't wait to tame her though! Last night she would stay the opposite sid of the cage to my finger. This morning i had my finger in her cage and she was about 2cm away and she didnt move! I count that as progress.

I talked to mum and she thinks ill probably end up keeping her. I'm glad i bought her. She could have been bought by someone who had no idea what they are in for with a untame bird. Growing up taming one lot of 4 cockatiels at a time when i was 8-12yrs old. Then working with wild rescue release birds from 13-15yrs old I kinda know what i am in for. I like having the feeling of being able to make a scared almost wild bird calm and tame. With Matches she was already tame so i felt like i had done nothing, thats why i had to do tricks with her. This one is going to be a little project.

I get what you're saying with feeling like you havn't done anything with your first bird.
My green cheek came to me totally tame, massive attitude and not scared of anything. When I got my sun, she was parent raised and used to lunge at the cage bars and drew blood a couple of times... now she's the sweetest little bird after only just under three months. She's not as fearless as my gc, but she's getting there.

Good luck!

Congrats on your new baby, your dad will come around just wait and see. I always did things when I was younger and never asked my parents, they were mad at first but they came around and they loved them like we had them for years or they brought it.

Yeah he didnt say anything about it yesterday so i think it is sinking in. OMG I play with Matches infront of her (they dont get too close incase she has something matches can catch, says she has been checked by the parrot society though but just incase) and she is so interested in matches. I think matches is annoyed cos she is in HER travel cage lol..only for now, will be looking at cages before the weekend.

Ok last night she was taking food from my fingers through the bars!!! YAY!!! When i open the door she jumps out and boy can she RUN! Finally caught her and just held her and scritched her head and she seemed to close her eyes when i was doing it...so cute!

This morning i had the cage open and put my hand in there with seed in it and i think she was a little more calm cos she saw matches eating from my hand before. She was eating from my hand AHHH!! Also twice she jumped onto my hand to eat from it!! YAY!

She still hasnt yet drawn blood but im waiting for it, her bites arent as bad as other conure bites i have had. She is so cute! Ahhh I am falling for her already...exept for her running. I had her in the bathroom and she hid in my top Matches is an idiot in the bathroom...somehow she gets stuck the sink?? She's a dag.

Oh and Matches hasnt regurgitated since Saturday!! SO after tomorrow she can stop her medicine!! YAY!

Thought i would update you on our progress...im thinking tricky as a name maybe cos she is a tricky little bugger flicking herself out the cage. I dunno?
