Brought Mili, a Sun Conure home last night

We brought our first bird, a sun conure, (name: Mili) home last night. She came with a hatch certificate and DNA sexing info.
Mili was fully weaned and also steps up onto the finger on command or even if you put your hand to perch up. She was mostly quiet during the ride home constantly looking curiously towards the road, croaking once in a while like a frog. She is 8 weeks old.
She readily hung on to us after we brought her home, climbed on our shoulders, back etc. When we put her in her cage, she checked every nook and corner of the cage and bit almost every bar, ran from one perch to another, climbed up and down like frenzy. We did not know if, it was coz she was afraid or anxious so, we left the door open.
When covered she slept without a word. We kept a small towel at the corner of her cage for cushion for her to sleep and she went there and slept. This morning she woke up and was chirpy (Croaky) and nibbled a couple of her seeds from our hand.

She did not eat much though, is that expected in a new home? I am excited and also nervous at the same time.
What did your conure do on the first day when you brought him/her home?

Thanks a bunch. I learnt a lot from this forum.

when i bought Boo home he was just as excited and loud and hungry and curious and clingy as he is now :) he settled in awesomely..

but it is normal for birds to go through an adjustment period, try lots of different foods other than seeds. use fruits and vegies... silverbeet is a real favourite, it gets SHREDDED though.. lol.

hope you're ready for the NOISE every morning and evening :) after a while having the screaming IN YOUR EAR you become a little deaf and the noise doesn't seem to bother you so much :)

good luck with mili :) sun conure's are the BEST bird anyone could ever own (yes i know i'm totally BIASED) but it''s also TRUE

She is only croaking now so, I dont know if that is because she is only a baby now and will get higher pitched. She raised her voice a couple of times when we were trying to cover her cage for her to sleep but, it was just a bird chirp frequency still. Have not heard the conure loudness yet. *Fingers crossed*
The best thing was she just bonded soon with us and came onto our hands and sat on our shoulders instantly.

You know i think that sun's have everything anyone would ever want in a abird.. they bond pretty much instantly, they are funny, super smart, aesthetically beautiful and sweet and snuggly. they learn everything so quickly, can learn to talk and love kisses and are just awesome at everything :)

it's just the ONE DOWNFALL (the noise) can make such a huge difference in so many people's lives.. if they weren't so noisy i think EVERYONE should have a sun conure!!

lol i am like one of those crazy mothers who does nothing but talk up their child, and never really see's anything they do wrong!

i love them...

I laughed at 'croaky'. My sun sounds like a goose. All he does is honk, sometimes loudly, but just honking! LOL

Conure cohabitation...

I have a female sun samed Cali and an unsexed marroon bellied named Lucy(although looking at all of your pictures, she resembles a green cheeked) in one aviary - 4' x 4 ' x 3'...
I may be adopting - from someone who bought him and doesn't want him- a 6 month old green cheeked male...can they all be in the same aviary?

... after a 3 hour car ride, my first sun conure bit my daughter then attacked me. She is 5 years old and threw a fit cuz she wanted to take him out of the carrier. Me being the nurturing experience-encouraging dad said "fine, do it then, but you'll get bit" and sure enough..

Then after that, he loved her, and still loves her, and still trys to defend her from me. But it's ok. I get along with his girlfriend JC. She loves meeee ! So he gets mad at me for that too.

.....it's a good relationship!!

My Green cheek was very quiet for the first few days, mind you she wasnt handled by people, she was parent raised. But now every morning she does her little screams (not as loud as a sun though). When she is running around she makes these little quacking sounds you can barely hear its so cute. She's so snuggly now and hasnt bitten anyone, she's awesome! My Alex on the other hand knew me during the weaning process so as soon as she got in the door she was normal...owns everything lol.
