Finally settled on a name - Georgia Peach. If she turns out to be a boy we'll call her George LOL. I had it in my head wrong about her age. She's actually just 8 weeks old. She was born 2-10-08 Just a baby.
Someone tell me about their feathers. The breeder mentioned how she'll get her adult feathers and they'll be brighter in color. Does this mean that her flight feathers are not in yet? She got off my hand a couple of times today, one time was in front of the stair well and she soared down the stairs to the bottom where our dog lay. He's a good boy and had been introduced to her just before that so he stayed still and just gently sniffed her while I retrieved her. She didn't seem too concerned. I see what you all mean by gcc's being fearless. How can I tell when she needs to be clipped? Amy |

She's so cute. You could tell when you need to clip her...she will fly upwards.

Congratulations. Georgie is cute, boy or girl. Conures are fearless and also they dont give up. They love to be sung to. Mili screams if Vinny and I are talking but, if we are singing, she sits there without a word, occasionally croaking. I practice classical music with my sister in law over the internet and she kept croaking for attention as long as we were talking and as soon as we started singing, she was absolutely quiet.
They love music perhaps. Enjoy your conure. Mili is a baby too, born 02-02-2008. They are a lot of fun and easily trainable. |

No, she looks like she has been clipped already. At her age (from the pics) she would have flight feathers already. They grow in from birth and they should be very long and they can fly before they are weaned. She has been clipped by the breeder.
She will go thru a first molt gradually and lose one or two of the clipped feathers at a time. You will see them on the floor or in the cage. Then over some time you will see the new feather take its place. these need to be allowed to grow to full length before clipping or they will look funny different lenghths if clipped to soon. Dont allow more then a few to get long though, they can fly amazingly well with just a few on each side. If you stretch out a wing you will see the primaries have been cut straight across. Can I ask where you got her/him?? I say "girl" by the very round head.
