General Info

Hi there I have a Sun Conure thats just turned 8 months ( had since she was 3 months old ) on the 11th and she's molting , But what I was after just how often are some of you worming and spraying for lice.

My current routine is worming once a month and lice twice a month. I've also noticed that she is a little unsettled at times since she started to molt is that normal?

Any tips to help her stop yelling as much, there's always someone home but as soon as I walk in from work it's all on she rubs her back on me, pecks in the way of cleaning my face, kisses non stop, Is this normal this much affection?

She's a little chatter box she can speak 5 words now.

Also how long does it normaly take for a parrot to molt?

Hi Robsconure i would not be worming your bird every month that is too much for there system, Worming every 3 months is better for there body and not too much for there system. Also do not spray mite and lice spray unless they have mites or lice. If you spray them to much it can cause skin irratation And dry skin, I could be wrong if i am someone please correct me. I'm afraid there isn't much to stop her sqauwking sun conures are natually loud birds, But you could try ignoring her when she sqauwks. When she is quiet then go to her let her out of the cage and praise her. Other then that theres not much more you could do. Sun conures demend alot of attention from there owners and if they don't get enough they will scream and do anything to get some attention. I own 2 sun conures 1 male named Besley & 1 female named Bonnie there if my sig picture. My guys are fairly quiet but do use there high pitch sqauwk twice a day. My sun conures demend alot of my time they want to be let out 2 or 3 times a day short interivals. My sun conures are the same with the kissing. This is her way of saying welcome home. Depending on if its a heavy molt or light. My guys normally take a month or 2 before there finished there molt.

If your birds are indoors, you really don't need to worm them after the initial "new bird" worming. My Janday is almost a year old now and going through a moult but it doesn't seem to be worrying him much, he is as sweet and cheeky as ever!

I've also noticed that Gisele my conure has a few feather missing here and their and on her head and I can see a few baby down fluff feathers on her chest is all this linked to molting as she is currently going through this and at only just turned 8 months old?

That's about right, it's moulting season in Australia right now (all last month). I have feathers all over the house!

I didn't even know birds had to be wormed. My vet never mentioned it at the first checkup, they just weighed him and made sure he had good balance. Is that odd?
