Fresh Air! Sun conures in the sun!

I'm sorry.. I should have taken pictures! I know how everyone loves pictures with stories.

It finally got warm here in northern Pennsylvania, so we took the birds out.

I got home with the kids after work. My wing-clipping assistant (my 5 yr old daughter) laughed as I tried to catch some really fast sun conures. Scotty and JC weren't going to have anything to do with me and a towel. Wing clipping went pretty well. They were calm after capture.

Then we headed to the porch with the play perch. I'm not sure what everyone's opinion on birds being loose outside.. but I felt confident enough that there was no immediate danger today. They were so happy to be out in the sun, and seeing other birds around.

The next thing I know JC takes off flying across the yard! (downhill, actually) She's a really good flier, and I only clipped enough to keep her from getting lift. My daughter and I run down the yard, and her first reaction was to shut the gate!! I scooped up JC and went back to the porch.

A little later I went in and brought out one of the Nandays. She's friendly with the suns. So I then had 3 conures on a perch. Then my son walked behind them with a rake, and they scatted. Scotty stayed put. JC and the Nanday flew into the front yard. Once again I run and scoop up JC because she was further away. After putting her on the porch, the nanday decided she would take shelter in a large pine shrub It took a good 10 minutes to dig through the bush and find her. When I put my hand down, she grabbed hold with her beak. We've got enough trust that I know she won't bite. We were all dirty and dusty and I had enough "fun".

After that adventure it was time to go back inside. My kids, fids, and myself all enjoyed spending time outside.

That's my spring day story, thanks for reading!

I took mine outside last weekend too. Like Bee, mine are flighted so I had to set up 2 smaller cages (one for the Conures and one for the Parrotlets) with food, water and a few perches. I set both cages on our patio table partially under an umbrella so they could get out of the direct sun if they got uncomfortable.

Took them awhile to relax but we spent about 2 hours on the back porch and I think they all enjoyed it once they realized they were safe.

Beautiful fids, thanks for sharing some pics. I bet they love adventuring outside (as long as you are close by to protect them from evil monsters).

Yes, I never leave them unattended and am almost always ready to chase. Luckily we have no large trees within flying distance. JC showed me just how far she can fly downhill.

As for taking 5 birds outside at once, I don't think I'll be doing that again. They're worse than chasing 2 year old kids!

There were lots of robins, starlings, and other birds outside. I was watching them for predator safety. I figure if something is about, they'll be the best warning sign.
