Food for GCC
My baby GCC (still at breeders) is being weaned onto Roudybush pellets, and I am wondering if I can keep the birdie on this, shift to Harrisons, or to something I can buy at Petsmart (like Zupreem). I have also been trying to get feedback on the TOP pellets--the ingredients seem wonderful.
Problem is, I have a limited budget. I am happy to get better food, but if I can't get it at Petsmart, I will need to order online since I live in the middle of nowhere. Ordering monthly and paying shipping all the time would basically double the food bill, which I really can't do. Is it possible to order larger quantities and keep in fridge or freezer? I am looking into sprouting beans, and I am a vegan who likes to cook, so most of the foods I eat will also be great for the birdie. And I plan to get busy adapting my muffin recipes to remove the sugar, so I will have those also. I want to really start off right with this baby, introducing the best quality and variety of food possible. I am so excited about my baby, that I am probably going totally bonkers, trying to get everything perfect. ![]()

I recommend TOP or Foundation Formula Original Formula... I have TOP but my birds don't care for it! Brats!
You can switch his diet if you like. And if the company is willing to, you can certainly buy in larger quantities! I buy canary seed in approx 10lb's, cockatiel seed 20lb, parrot/conure seed 6lb, and zupreem natural pellets in 20lb bags. Although, I do this mainly because I have 13 birds (but caring for 14). Saves me money!

I don't know what petsmart carries (food wise) For sprouts I usually use mung beans, adzuki beans, rolled oats, or lentils... my parrotlets LOVE the sprouted lentils!
... I have met quite a number of people that don't feed pellets or seeds. There was this one guy I met a couple months ago who fed his DYH Amazon different whole wheat pastas, different fruit (fresh and dried), veggies, sprouts, and he baked Pancho (his bird) many types of muffins and breads filled with fruits and veggies.... basically the diet was all natural... And this bird had the brightest, most beautiful plumage (feathers) I had EVER SEEN! So you could get by without a pellet or seed mix... I would just research the hell out of it and find what works best for you!
