Quakers and Sun Conures

Hi,

I am about to get a Sun Conure, but I wanted to know if any one here has a Sun Conure and a Quaker? If so, do they get along? Do they make about the same amount of nosie as quakers? What should they eat? Like Quakers are prone to Fatty Liver, or Suns?

Thanks!
Lisa

Yep I have a sun conure and a Quaker...they get on but the sun conure Sunny was here first and is older (4yrs) so he can stand up to Buddy who is only one year old and is a bossy little guy ..They are great mates though and preen each other ...I do have seperate cages for them as I have read Quakers do not tend to get on with other birds ...I have the cages joined at the moment and have had NO trouble at all they sleep together in the same sleeping box ...They are not locked into the cage much as I have a big room they are free in and have play trees and Gyms for them to fly to and from they play in their cages during the day but the door is open so maybe thats why they get on they can get away from each other I don`t know how it would be if they were locked together all day ..They both love us the humans in the flock and never leave us alone ..here are some piccy`s of my boys....

Hi zeta i think you should get a baby sun conure just weaned this way your quaker is still the boss. The sun conure will look up to your other birds and want to be part of what ever they are doing. If you get a just weaned sun conure you can teach and train him/her whats allowed and wants not.Where if you get an older bird there pretty well stuck in there own ways and you will have some trouble trying to teach and train him/her whats allowed and whats not. I think you will be better off getting a just weaned baby you won't regret it.

Yes get a baby but becareful as your Quaker may just be a wee bit jealous they tend to be a very stubourn and bossy fids(although adorable and comical) so watch them till your new baby is big enough to get out of harms way and don`t house them together supervise all playtimes ....
Does your Quaker get along with the tiels ???
I`ll come visit the site you left later tonight now its time for Lunch with the boys I have just got home from being out and they are waiting for me (we had a couple of hours for breakfast before I left ) ....

Zeta only gets along with one Tiel, Snoopy. He try's to get very bossy to the other two. Zeta try's to hurt the other two. We use a dog clicker on him when he trys to go over on their cage. Is this something to worrie about?

Zeta looks so cute in the avatar piccy ....I forgot to say I would get a male as egg laying is one less problem you would have to cope with ..my two are boys and I have only ever had males for the fact I would worry too much about egg binding or laying I don`t want to be a fid breeder so think males are the best choice...just my choice others may have different opinions...
Post some piccys of your guys I would love to see them ...

sun conures are louder then Quakers. Now on how long they scream for well it depends if the bird is happy with his/her surroundings.Lets say he/she is happy it will probably only scream at dawn and dusk and when your coming home from work or something. If he/she is unhappy it will probably scream all day long or most of the day.Yet some sun conures scream cause they like hearing there own voice or is bored.Julies sun conure doesn't let off he high pitched screams only at dawn and dusk. Sometimes she might sqauwk during the day but it isn't a high pitched scream that sun conures do.If your bird does scream alot try and find out what he or she is screaming at or for.Try rewarding him or her when he/she is being quiet and ignor him/her when he/she is being to loud.Hope this has helped.
