Is it ever considered uncouth to change the name of a bird?

My two conures are named Scooter and Rusty, and I've had them for a few weeks now, but it just dawned on me that if I called them Dan and Roseanne... Dan and Roseanne Conure...

lol

I don't know if it is unhip or if it would interfer with the birds or not. I do know that my sun, Sunny, definitely knows his name. Now if you call him something else he doesn't really respond. I guess you could give it a try.

I know when I got Sunny I really wanted to change his name because it isn't very original, but he answered to it and knows how to say hi sunny.

i dont think it would be a problem if its only been a few weeks. as long as you plan on sticking with the new names.

do they already know their current names?

Also, as I sometimes mix up their names (calling Scooter 'Rusty' or vice-versa), I doubt they do...

When I got my first two birds, they came with the names Kramer and Puffin. I ended up changing their names and it doesn't seem to bother them.

I've had my bird since mid April. I recently changed the name from Jellybean to Shadow because all he/she does is follow me when out of the cage. It wasn't a problem for my bird. Didn't seem to mind the name change at all. Didn't say the name Jellybean all that often anyway.

When we got Sarge a few months ago, he had no name (thats according to the pet store that had him). I'm not sure how a 10 year old bird can't have a name, but anyways We started calling him Sarge immediately and he knows his name already. It may take a few weeks, but I'm sure they'll catch on

I personally didnt like the name "Erma" and I definately didnt like the name "Captain Morgan" (geez how many large macaws are named Captain Morgan?-theres one on here I know of personally already) Sad but true they both know their names... very well. Its who they are and I accept that.

Since "Rusty" is phonetically similar to "Rosie" (Roseanne), Rus will be no problem.

Scooter Dan still can't differentiate "Scooter" with "Scotchguard" so he's a no-brainer too.

I did really like "Scooter" from the get-go as it matches his personality, but "Scooter Dan" will work too, worst case scenario. :D

When purchasing, Rosie started as "Reba" anyway, and quickly changed to Rusty.

And I'm using their names predominately in areas they are not accustomed in, so they'll pick up on it quicker. I think they'll be set with them just fine.
