Conure advice needed
We are looking to add a new member to our flock. I know we cannot take the noise factor of some of the Conures. We've met 2 GCC from 2 different breeders, and both were babies. One was very sweet, and the other bit my 9 y.o. son and husband like crazy, even drew blood. I also met a Dusky headed and really liked them, but can't find much info. on them. Do they scream a lot and do they have any ability to talk? What about Blue Crowns? Are they nippy and how loud are they? Can any of these guys be compared to a Quaker? Thanks for your help. Heather

I have a blue crown and he can get very loud if he wants to but for me its not often other people do have blue crowns though that make noise all day. As for blue crowns talking ability he isnt even a year old and knows probably around 10 words that we can understand and a whole lot more that makes no sense to me yet lol.

Dusky conure can be tought a few words, but in general they are not "talkers".
They are much louder than green cheeks. With enough attention, daily playtime with you, many different toys, including chew toys in his cage, big flight cage, the noise level is not bad at all. Green cheeks are known to be nippy.

My green cheek was parent raised so I tamed her. She bit me once when i first got her and has never bitten anyone since. She is the sweetest little thing. It all depends on the bird and how you train it. The bitey one either just needs to be trained properly or isnt cut our for being a pet, the other might be perfect.
Green cheeks can talk but arent known for it, they either don't talk or arent very clear with it...mine doent talk but i have a friend who's green cheek does talk. They are no where near as noisy as quakers (well, not compared to the quakers I've seen). I'm not sure about the other conures though?

We had a little green cheek who was very nippy for a while which is a stage they go through. We also have a sun who only screams when she wants something..... like out of the cage in the morning. :) We also have a blue crown, who is, although more affectionate than the sun, is very sensitive to hand movements but beaks more than bites. She is also the loudest of the bunch! :) Not screaming though, just alot of chatter and talking. But you always know they are around!
I think that no matter what advice you get, every bird is different, despite their species. The blue crowns are quite a bit bigger and more expensive than the gcc. Their movements are more slow and methodical where as the smaller conures are quick and agile. We love them all!
