Carson just came to live with us one week ago. 2 mo. old Greencheek. Everything seems to be very normal. He is eating/drinking fine. Snacking on everything I offer him. Plenty of time outside of the cage. Minimal interaction with his in-the-cage toys, but I see that he is starting to become more interested in them. Plenty of variety, of course. Big cage, lots of room.
My only concern right now is that he (sometimes - not always) paces back and forth at the bottom of his cage. Usually it is in the morning before I've taken him out, or in the early afternoon, when i've put him back before he has deemed appropriate. I think he stops when he can't see me, but i'm not sure yet. Should I just ignore him and go on about my business when he does that? Or is there another suggestion some of you have found to be effective. WWbbD (what would bird board do?) By the way - I LOVE THIS LITTLE GUY. I've never had a parrot before. He was hand raised, and is just the most wonderful little personality in the universe. Part of me is thrilled when he paces, because i know he wants to spend time with me. I never knew how much these little guys can interact and communicate. I'm still figuring out the biting thing, it's VERY rare, and i think mostly my fault. Generally, he never bites or nips, even when i scratch around his head and face. But on a few occasions, he has warned me with a much softer, but higher pitched sound than his usual voice, and only does this when he was either eating and i asked him to step up away from his snacks, or when he's hanging out in the back, top of his cage cuddling with his hanging tropical seed/nut stick at night (i'm assuming he's tired and not wanting to play)... Am I close? Is this normal and okay or should I do something more assertive about it. Thanks for your help. And also, thanks for all of your previous posts. I've never posted before, but i've been reading your posts for the past few months trying to decide which bird would be the best for us. It is because of your wealth of knowledge, ideas and support that we decided on this wonderful little guy. |

If he's like any of my conures...
He's pacing because he can't get enough outside time with you. Doesn't matter if they're outside of their cages for 20 hours straight, the minute they're inside again, they want right back out lol. He's just a baby, very very young still, so as his interest in all things outside of humans (remember, at 2 months, he's JUST off the hand feeding, so humans = food!) is still immature. Make sure his toys are interesting - bells, especially hold attention! Soon as he realises that toys are fun and his cage can be fun, he'll settle.

Haha, my green cheek conure paces up and down the bottom of her cage in the morning too! But it's only in the morning. She was parent raised and 6 months old when i got her so i tamed her and she is so sweet! You picked a good one!

Mine does too a bit. Especially when she gets put back after out time, or when her door is open and I'm encouraging her to jump off of the cage onto my bed(early morning when the little snot wakes me up and won't let me get back to sleep!) instead of me standing next to her while she's doing it. She never can have enough attention :D
