Blue crowned conures

Hi everyone, I am new on this board and am looking into getting a blue crown conure. I have done alot of research on them and think they are wonderful birds. But I would just like to hear what an allready blue crown conure mom or dad has to say about them. Also I am finding it hard to find a breeder, are there many in rescues? I dont think I want to get one from a pet store either but may have to. I will keep looking though first. Thanks

Lynne

I have a Bluecrown conure named Duke who I have had four years. He is probably the biggest personality of all my conures. He loves to perform for people and I take him out to nursing homes where he talks, laughs and gives human screams of surprise. The more everyone laughs the bigger the ham he gets. I ask him give me kiss and he kisses my cheek with a loud smooch and then says awwwwwww. He hums along when you sing a song. Life with Duke is a trip. He never fails to make me smile. He was a year old when I got him.

Rescues can be found but they are not as common as say nandays or cockatoos.

What area of the country are you in? I am in Florida and can find out at this weekends birds fair who has bluecrowns this year if you are in the south.

Hi thanks but I am in mass. I will be moving to Florida(hopefully if all goes well) in Sept to the Tampa area. I may have to wait til then anyways cause it is difficult to find any around here. :(
Oh well my mom and brother are coming down to Tampa in the end of june to look at houses do they travel well? Maybe they could bring one home with them under the seat? Is that ok for the birds?
Now I really cant wait to get one, but I am patient

If you are moving soon I would really reccomend that you wait until you moved. Some do travel way but some don't. It counts on the birds and how old it is. I am sure you will be able to locate a local breeder when you get here.

I live sixty miles south of Tampa. If you like the heat it is a beautiful place to live. I used to live in Acton Mass before I moved here.

Please remember that birds pick us, not the other way around. I would wait until you are settled in your new place, then find a breeder and let the bird pick you. Your mom and brother may find you a bird, but will the bird bond wth you? Possibly not. Enjoy your move, and welcome to Florida, though the panhandle is the best part of Florida, IMHO! I am originally from WI - yes, I am a cheesehead!

Sarasota here. Yes I don't like North Port either. It has grown quite a bit, but still to small for my taste. Well let me know when you are here and I will help you find a breeder. I don't think I saw one bluecrown baby at our bird fair yesterday but it may be to early in the season for them yet. Lots of sun and jendays though.

Blue Crown Conure

I went throught what you have Misfit I researched after I fell in love with birds. My first was a cockatiel who I didn't go into the pet store for a bird just to get my boxer a toy. Well Henry found me, the first thing he did was pull out my nose stud, I thought the owner was going to pass out. I explained it didn't hurt but fell head over heals with the little Cockatiel. He was only two months and I had to learn about bird quickly he was so smart. I want another bird so I started looking I found blue crowns and talked to all breeders and owners of Blue Crown not one bad thing did I hear. I went to a bird store to see the little fellows and they melt your heart. Now I have a breeder that has three that I went to see last weekend, only four weeks old and so cute (and naked) one picked me out for sure People who told you to let the bird pick you is totally right. I have Joshua's cage ready all the toys a little bcc would want, plus an extra set to change out. Good Luck in you search they are worth it.
