Baby Conures!

I'm so very excited! My breeder just sent me pictures of my new conure (still weaning) and her sister. They are Pineapples and from what I can tell are identical. I don't actually know which one is coming home with me. They are both tame and playful.

I'm trying to pick out a name for my new baby girl. What do you think about Mango, Adin, Ducki, or Echo?

So, I'm in the process of preparing for the new gcc's arrival. I tested all my toys and cage parts for zinc with the magnet and visual test. Gonna replace 6 washers and 4 wing nuts, but everything else seems safe. I'm gonna get zip-ties to hold some toys. Everything has been scrubbed down and dried.

I want to ask the breeder some questions, but don't really know what to ask. Anybody got a list of things I need to be aware of before she comes home?

you'll want to know the hatch date, so you'll know when to party.

You will also need to know what kind of diet s/he is on because it is better to contiue the same brand, at least for a while, when you bring him home.

The breeder will hopefully tell you more about his personality, his likes and dislikes. If he sleeps in a hut, you would need to buy one too.

Good luck!

Congrats! Name wise I'm having a hard time with choosing a good one for the little cgc I just got so I'm of no help there.

I agree with the above posters, hatch date, diet, likes and dislikes with veggies. I wish you the best with your new fid!

Sooo cute. I have a pair of pineapple babies that I'm hand-feeding right now and they're just the most adorable things. It's going to be hard for you to choose! hehe

i like the name adin... i think it's cute and very unique.

wouldn't use the zip-ties for hanging toys.... the usual metal links are good, and zip-ties can be too tight (and catch a toe) or be chewed through.

other than the above suggestions, i'd ask for a hatch-certificate (could be valuable if you have to travel, as wild caught birds can't be imported anywhere contrary to domestically bred parrots - better safe than sorry), any documentation on vet checks and immunizations, and probably a guarantee. nobody wants to think something could be wrong with the baby birdie, but again - better safe than sorry. also, does the breeder sex the birds?

oh, and i'd ask if there's a favorite type of toy so you don't end up buying a lot of wooden toys, while s/he prefers plastic

congratulations - you must be so excited. s/he's absolutely adorable.

The breeder sexed the birds before sending me pics, so she would know which ones to take pics of.

My boyfriend is pretty partial to Ducki, and I just think its so cute. We might end up with a Ducki bird :)
