Other than the fact that you could get the same species of birds directly from a breeder for $100-$300, handraised? Not sure what to say!
GC's are known for being very nippy, however if worked with wont become an issue. Sun's are known for being very noisy, especially when they come of age. As long as they are properly cared for, and not overly spoiled, the screaming shouldn't become an issue.

I love my green cheek. I think the sun's are beautiful and recently considered adding one that needed a new home - but was really torn. I just don't know if I can handle the pitch of a sun conure. My green cheek was a little nippy when I first got her - but she's not now. Though she does dislike my son very much and would love to take a chunk out of him any chance she gets! But she's not nippy with the rest of the family. I'm with Monica on the price. Go to a breeder - then you can afford to get 1 of each with the price the store is selling them for! LOL Normal green cheeks from breeders sell around here for $125 - $150, sun's for $275 - $350.

Are you *kidding* me?!? I spent that much on my canary!!! WOW. I don't know if we have breeders around here? I think the band on one of the suns said FL (Florida?) so I was assuming they were shipped? That is a *huge* price difference. It seems all the pet stores around here tote their birds as being "hand fed" so they can jack their prices up, yet you'd never know it for as unsocialized all these birds seem...my god. The only breeder in SD listed in the back of Birds USA was from Rapid City and she didn't offer any of the birds I am interested in. Do you think South Dakota has parrot breeders that just don't advertise anywhere???

You might want to contact the above e-mail address to see if there are any baby sun conures for $300, Pierre, SD area. Here's one site... Mt. Rushmore Birds although their birds seem a bit overpriced..... index These guys don't look like they have anything your interested, but maybe you ought to give em a call just in case? Of course you could probably look in various states nearby, too....

Bird Breeders in South Dakota SD - BirdBreeders.com - Avian Directory of Available Birds and Bird Breeders There's a few breeders listed here. I only saw 1 with green cheek conures (Carmen's Feather Farm) and didn't see any with Sun's. But you can always email them and ask them if they know of any breeders close. Sometimes breeders will help you track down a baby if they don't breed them.

Hello, new to the site but we just went thru the same situation as you and had to post.
Here in New Mexico there are no breeders and all the birds have huge mark ups and it really made us think what bird would fit in our family. We really wanted a african grey but they were $2000+..so we felt a bird might be out of the budget. Found a sun who was just full of love but he was $600 so we looked at some green cheeks but the just kept biting me and my younster...they were only $300. Well..we saved for 2 mths and took home the sun. He just won us over. He was puppy like and my youngser was able to pick him up and pet him with no issue. 3 weeks later and he is a very happy, loving, kissy, and enjoyable bird in our family. They say "you will know" and I did not belive them...BUT now I know what they mean...You will know which bird is for you. |
