mononucleosis

i just got diagnosed with mononucleosis, yes, the kissing disease. I was wondering if it is spreadable to birds.

Have you tried googling? I had a quick google, but didn't find anything relating to birds.

I doubt it, but don't take what I say to heart. I'd try google.

I really don't think so but that would be a question for an avian vet.. It used to be called the kissing disease but it is actually air born so you can catch it without kissing.. That's how I got it many years ago. I really feel for you I was sooooo sick for about 3 months.

I am not a vet, no member of a message board can substitute for a visit to a good avian vet in the case of potential health problems

I had mono when I was 10, I think it was from a water fountain maybe. I remeber that it wasn't fun, kept me sick for quite a while.

I have no idea if that could be caught by your fids. I don't think you'd really find a lot of info on that subject. I'd try asking your vet to see what they thought, ask the doctor maybe...even though the chances of them knowing is slim to none. Good luck with it, and let us know what you find out on it being contagious to birds.

I've had mono... (Feb of '04) first dr told me it was strep throat and gave me a prescription... lotta good that did! Second dr said it was mono, said he couldn't do anything, but to eat icy foods such as ice pops, or slushies... NO icecream or citrus foods/drinks! (bad idea, I learned...) I've been plagued with sore throat problems (even "chronic" strep throat) as well as nasal problems since...

Is mono, or for that matter, strep throat, dangerous to our fids? No. Been there, done that, and asked myself! So no need to be afraid! If you still have it, just try and relax, maybe get someone to help with the animals if need be, eat icy foods, might even help to put a bag of ice on your throat while lying down....
