Is/are your fid(s) shoulder-friendly?

We all know some parrots, when perched on the shoulder, might either nip at one's ears, go after jewelry, or think he's top of the hill of the tree shaped like your body.

Do you allow your conure(s) to perch on your shoulder?

Rusty (Cinnamon GCC) won't be one as he loves to nip and play rough, right down to using my fingers to do acrobatic tricks on (then gets all soft and cuddly after he's done biting me to a pulp)

Scooter (GCC) will be; he will nip but he's not as hard when doing so, preens my hair, and unlike Rusty hasn't figured out playing with toys yet (he'll fight them and get all angry). While scared of hands and fingers, he prefers humans to toys; and he's allowed me to scratch his neck often. He's a good bird too...

Wawa is always on one of our shoulders, or playing in our hand. Yes he does go after my earings, or nose stud and then it's the give it back game. Yes once in a while he will preen and clean my ear and sometimes nip it a little hard, but not to be mean or anything. But he loves being on us and close to us that way.

Stewie has earned his shoulder privileges. He's never bitten my face or ear, although he did once try to "help" me preen my eyelashes and pulled one out before I could stop him. (I don't know how he managed it so quickly because I make a point of not letting him near my eyelashes! D'oh!)

Talking

Stimpy loves the shoulder, mainly the left one (yes he has a preference) once in a blue moon he will get a wild feather up his highny and haul off and nip the ear but besides that he spends most of his time on our shoulders, he just loves to check us out with his beak but he is so gentle with it that most of the times he gives us goose bumps when he does it.

With our larger birds around it is welcome relief to just put that little guy on our shoulders..............LMB

My Nanday and Green Cheek Conure love the shoulder. Nanday on the left and the GCC on the right. Both are well behaved. The GCC will sometimes try to take over the left but the Nanday puts him in his place.

All these well-behaved fids make mine look bad. Diego is a demon on other people's shoulders. All they have to do is turn their head, and they get bitten in the face or neck. He's okay on mine. I cover my ear with my hair, since he nibbles on it too hard sometimes. Getting him off my shoulder is the hard part. He either threatens to bite me, or he lays down flat so I can't get my finger under him.

I rarely put him on my shoulder because of all this.

my gcc LIVE on me - anywhere they can...the one I recently rescuded like to hide under my hair...my spoiled one usually only goes to the shoulder as a means to get on my back where I can't reach him...he's usually perched on my hands so I can't do anything but play with him! We recenlty started allowing our rescued TAG on our shoulders. He leaves me alone while up there - just looks around & checks out his surroundings but he tries to preen my boyfriend's moustache & occassionally nips him pretty good. I think he sees the little ones treating us like their personal jungle gyms & wants to do the same!
