inappropriate rubbing by my green cheek

I need your help on this! I recently got a baby green cheek and he's a 8-week-old male. I noticed that whenever he's about to step onto my finger he rubs his genital area against the back of my hand...like in a circling motion...I tried to stop him but he keeps doing it. Is this like a dog humping your leg when going through puberty? or just trying to clean his private part? I'm confused because I thought he's still too young to reach sexual maturity. What is going on exactly? How can I stop this? Thanks!

Are you sure he is only 8 weeks? That is far too young to be displaying any sexual behaviors.

If you are sure that he is under 2 years, then I think a vet check might be in order. There could be something irritating his cloaca (like an infection) and the rubbing might just be trying to relieve a nasty itch.

Totally agree with this poster. an 8 week old baby should not be displaying sexual behaviors of that nature. Are you sure he is stepping up, not just wobbly and falling back a little and its being mistaken for something its not?

I had a puppy once, 8 weeks old, that would arch its back in a humping motion if anything went in between its legs. It was a subconcious reaction, not a sexual motion, that was driving him to do it.

Maybe your bird is similar? Kind of like a toddler learning to play with his you know what? He doesnt understand it, but something is telling him to do it.

Thanks for all your replies. My green cheek doesn't seem to do it as often. Most of the time he just steps right onto my finger. Maybe it was just a phase like nailsrglue said? hopefully it'll be under control from now on
