Thank you much for sharing and I am VERY glad Wawa is still with you! Definitely an incredible story...

I took the Hut out of my parrotlets' cage.

I use sleep tents for my bird, but only the kind that is made of a thin felt-like material that does not have any strings to pull out and does not have any loose fibers to swallow. I also check it when cleaning to make sure the thing is fully intact. It's as bird safe as I have found.

I would never use a Happy Hut.
A friend of mine had one in her lovebird's cage... went out for a few hours and came home to a bloody mess. She had somehow gotten one of her nails caught and chewed it off to get away from the hut. Thank god she was okay.

I'm so glad you friend's little lovebird survived the ordeal. Normally birds do panic and do anything to get loose/away. I don't know why, maybe devine intervention, but Wawa stayed so calm and still, and waited till I got home to cut him out of there before he moved. He was clinging to the back of the cage and had pulled as far as the strings around his neck would let him, frozen. He stayed still even when I came in to look on him and as I was cutting the strings away. I am so very, very, very lucky and blessed.

I am glad Wawa is OK.
I almost lost the lovebird because of the happy hut. The exact same thing happened as with your Wawa. If I was not home, he would die. A long thread was tightly wrapped around his neck and he was panicking trying to free himself. Poor thing.

It was such a traumatic experience for him, it took him 2 weeks to finally start using a hut again (a different type).

I'm glad your bird is ok!

I got a cozy sleep swing for my baby green cheek from a seller on ebay. They are called birdie binkies and are just a metal ring with soft pieces of fleece with pinked edges tied on to make a cozy perch. She seems to really like it.

I have to try it for my GCC.
I have two Birdie Binkies and my other birds were not interested in them at all. :(

I keep hearing about how Happy Huts are dangerous, and I can see why. What I can't figure out is why they don't make them like they used to. I own two that I bought like eight years ago, and they are a SMOOTH polar fleece-like fabric with NO quilting. They're great. Why the Happy Hut people changed their fabric and construction is totally beyond me. :/
