Question ?'s more than one Conure

Is it true that once you get a second conure that they no longer bond to you and ignore you? We were thinking about getting a buddy for Wawa, and someone told me that it would ruin our close relationship with Wawa and be really noisy. I can't imagine it as he always seeked my attention even with his siblings all around to play. Anyways for those of you that got a second Conure I would sure like some feedback as to the difference. Also is it really that much noisier?
Thanks for you help,

Is it true? Yes and No! It depends on the birds as well as how you continue to interact with them.

My first cockatiel is Casey and I've had her since she was 5 months old, back in 2001. Since then, I've owned 7 other cockatiels (all rehomes), and adopted out 3 of them, so now I have 8. Through all this time, Casey has remained the little, but demanding sweety that she was way back when!

However, she DID bond to Noel, my cherry head... and still remained sweet! I also have a mitred now, and the two conures DO NOT get along because they are complete opposites, literally!

Generally speaking, if you have two or more conures, and you handle them daily, maybe even cage them separately (which you have to do at first anyway), then they shall remain tame.

Not exactly true, I have 2 cgc's and they didn't bond to each other. They don't even get along to be honest. Its possible, but its not the case every time.

How do you deal with birds who don't get along? Can you get them to coexist civilly?

Thanks Monica,
You answered my question. My concern was not as much about them getting along with each other, but if Wawa would still be my sweet little needy suck LOL. I do plan on having seperate cages for when they are slepping and/or not supervised anyway. I'm sure they will get on well enough for playtime. Of course we plan on playing with both of them as much as possible. Right now I would say Wawa, on average, is only in a closed cage 15 hours a day and 10 to 12 of that is sleeping. Most of the time he is out sitting with or on one of us. I appreciate people who have praticle experience like youself.
Again, Thanks...

Meant to say that I have 5 cockatiels now, since adopting out 3 of the tiels I've taken in!

Charlie (mitred) and Noel (cherry head) do not get along. Noel has her cage in the bird room, and generally speaking she's a hands off type of bird. She loves kisses, and going outside, however she prefers being alone most of the time and doesn't really ask for attention. Charlie on the other hand would love nothing more than being attached to my hip! He wants to be on me, and it doesn't matter if it's my shoulder, my arms, or my lap! He's got his cage in my own bedroom, and a sleeping cage in the bird room. When I say they are complete opposites, well I mean it! Both are conures, both are red and green, and both are special needs... but beyond that, they really don't share any similarities!

Because of each personal nature of the birds, they are never put together, and things are just fine! However, if Noel was more like Charlie, then they'd probably get along better... even if they didn't, allowing them separate out of cage times, as well as separate one on one times would probably work out in the end!

Hope that answers your question Jenseits!

I'll share my experience. I have had a Nanday Conure for 7months, a Green Cheeked Conure for 2monthes. They are in separate cages, but right next to each other. The Nanday used to scream more often when we came home, left the house, etc. Now he never does, he LOVES having the GCC caged next to him, they talk and chatter all day liong and no longer need 100% of our attetion. They both NEED to come out at dinner time as we make parrot safe dishes for them to feast on as well, and they still love our attetion and come out for hours a day. If left alone the GCC (we think its still young) tries to "step up" onto the Nanday, which results in a fight that needs to be broken up.

It would go either way though, worked out real well for use evne though they are not best friends when playing together, but I believe that will get better...

I guess I got lucky when I got Zeus. After quarentine he took to Zoe like a duck to water and she loves him too. The are caged together and still both love their Mommy and Daddy time.

Well it depends really, as you've no doubt read on the above comments.

I bought a Cinnamon (or fallow) GCC for my other GCC, and crossed my fingers and hoped they would hug it out and be friends. . . The first day Zim (Original) tried to rip the other (Gir)s toe nails out. . . Then the next day when i was handeling him he would run up peck him and run away . . . And well now they share a cage. . . And they both still love coming out of there cage to be handled.. Or to swim in my coke! :( (So sticky)

Maybe bring Wawa to the breeder/petshop or friends house or what ever and see if Wawa gets along with it. . . If your gonna get Wawa a friend you want to make sure he actually wants a friend! - I got my Galah a ''friend'' once... Didn't go so well! He just wanted it dead! (Was a wild pidgeon that broke its leg in the fence)

Anyway, good luck with Wawa and it's friend, i hope they like eachother, and continue to like them (I'de suggest if they don't want to be handled, clip there wings once and handle them alot, they will get use to climbing and playing on you again) Worked with my budgies :D
