The problem with gloves is that birds may be even more terrified of them than they are of your hands. What could be worse, is that the bird gets accustomed to gloves, and then when you remove them, there are bare hands, and they freak out! They are used to gloves, not hands!
I know you do not like the idea of it, however using your hands is far better.... if the bird bites, it's better to push into the bite rather than pull away. That and don't react... i.e. don't scream, don't yell. At best, you can firmly say "No Biting" or "Be Easy"... you may also be interested in something such as the product below... 4Z Bird Products - Buddy Perch Try using a perch to handle the bird instead of your hands.... Offer the bird treats from your hands Allow the bird to come out of the cage on her own before handling her If she bites around her cage, use the perch to transfer her to another room to work with her away from her cage If she screams, see if she'll respond nicely to a certain word or phrase.... When Charlie screams, he'll say "Hello" if I ring the phone, or if I say "Hello" instead... it's our contact call! You could also try leaving music on or a tv if that'll comfort her Make sure she has plenty of toys to keep her busy... toys that she can shred, toys that make noise, etc.
