Does your conure growl at you

I have a 3 month old GCC. She's hilarious. She is the sweetest most tolerant bird. However, when she doesn't like something she doesn't bite me but she does this birdy version of growling. It's quite funny. I was just wondering if anyone else's bird does this?

I had a cockatiel before and he never did that. He'd either hiss or bite.

Yep- Chino is a growler, too. Sounds funny when he's trying to be all big and bad.
It's usually when he's eating and you walk up to his cage- it echoes in his bowl.
Or when he's pushed his way into my neck under my chin and he thinks someone is too close to me, trying to take him away.

Mu sun does it to anything outside, but he doesn't do it to me.
Is it like this? I finally got him on video (after a prompted growl from me!).

Tiki has growled before, but it has never been at me... Actually, there is a very scary story that involves the first time I ever heard Tiki growl. It's a long story, but to make it short, about 4 months ago someone had broken into my apartment and had been hiding out in my bedroom without me knowing about it. I had just gotten home a few minutes prior and my boyfriend was still at his work and wasn't due home for a few hours, so it was just me and the animals. Tiki saw movement in the bedroom from the kitchen and began growling.

Luckily no one was hurt, but the guy was never caught, so we now have all our locks changed and security cameras hanging up around our building. But if it hadn't of been for Tiki's growling, who knows what might of happened me.

Yes. It is close to Darwin's just in a higher pitched voice. It's funny.

Wow. That is an amazing story about Tiki - and try also very very scary. Did the man escape when he heard Tiki or did you hear Tiki and get alarmed and leave? You are lucky!

Yes, my Hahns growls (just like a conure) and so does my Blue Crown.

It was extremely eerie, because it was dead silent in the apartment when Tiki began growling out of nowhere. At first I ignored him, thinking it was something small and stupid, but when he persisted, I turned and noticed he was staring directly into my bedroom. I went over and picked him to quiet him down a bit when I heard something fall in the bedroom. I glanced down the hall into the bedroom and noticed legs and shoes shift from behind my dresser. I turned and immediately ran out of the house with Tiki still on my shoulder. I called the police and my mother from a pay phone, both of which who showed up in a matter of minutes. The police searched the entire house, found that nothing had been stolen (aside from Tiki and my ferret, there really isn't anything worth taking lol), but that the back door, which we never use had been unlocked and opened a crack. They made a break for it when I left.

It was our guess that this person was aiming to either rob me and was simply waiting for a good chance to sneak up on me, or they were a burglar who broke in at the wrong time and was hiding out until I left. Either way, it was obvious that they were probably a first timer at whatever their motives were.

Scooter does not... but Rusty does when he's really upset. When really upset, he will chase then bite me - all that pent up energy and angst. :(

I've recently spent more time with him, and the new cage arriving soon should make him much much much happier.

Bonn and Xaf growl, but when they do it, it's because they're happy and getting cuddles. Lots of 'hurrr hurrrrrrrr' growly sounds. Kiva growls only when he's being hand-fed from a syringe (Kiva takes meds, and gets them orally that way), but again, it's a sound of happiness for them. Sunae never growls ...she screams. lol

The GGC's don't growl, they make a pissed off squabbling noise. hehe

Yeah! Mine also does the hurrr hurrrrr sound when she is being stroked in a way she likes. However, she has a distinct angry growl sound! lol. Honestly, I prefer it to being bitten!
