Glad to hear that your little guy has settled a bit. But I just want to add in with "mybirdbutters" that the reality is these like most parrot species are noisy.
i can kinda relate to what your going through. A little over a year and and a half ago, very well intentioned friends bought me a lovebird for my birthday (a little lovebird with a big heart for chirping) Like you I bounded with her almost immediately. Kept her for just about a year hoping that the shrill chirps would someday subside a bit. Honestly, it was music to my ears but not to my dh's. I would come home from work and she'd be covered!! He just couldn't handle the noise. Not his fault...not her fault! It was just his personality and it was just her personality. Eventually I rehomed her to a dear friend who always wanted a lovebird. She (the lovebird) was very happy in her new home with four other birds...BUT I was broken hearted for a good while. I did eventually get another parrot (after doing my homework) and at times he can be sqwaky..but it's a bit different than the lovebird.

If you and most importantly your hubby can get to the point where you can accept your conure for what they are then I think it would be great to keep him. I've read that most conures can be quite loud so altho very cute and beautiful birds..and known to be cuddly I don't think I could have one. If it were just me living in my home I would have a bird of each species...lol...but at this time in my life I have another "flock" member to consider.

Whatever you decide I wish you the very best!!

Everyone has already said anything I could want to chime in, so I'm just gonna say Congrads on the new pet! I absolutely love GCCs, they are just so cute. They are conures, and conures are known for being loud. They are also in the family of conures that are considered quieter then most. That is why they are so popular. Good for people like me living in apartments. They can be nippy, especially when they are young. But time, persistance, and patience will eventually give you a wonderful relationship with your new bird.

Make sure to read lots on how to raise a young bird, as there is much to learn about food and training.

Again I want to thank you all for your words of wisdom, I never thought I would post on a forum but so glad I did as your input has been so valuable. For the last 2 days husband and Freddie have made friends and sit with each just sussing each other out! The squawking, which I thought was screaming, we have now come to realise that this is a sound that he makes when he wants attention and we have worked ways around it. Either by taking him out of the cage or putting him back in! We speak in soft voices around him and try to remember not to shout to each other. If I shout to my son in the morning Freddie often tries to out do me by being that slight bit louder Anyway thanks again and I will no doubt keep you all updated on progress together. Laura
