?'s Nansun

We are thinking about getting a Nansun as a second addition to our family. They are hand raised and sweet just like Wawa. The breeder is very picky as to what home they go to. Nice hey.... Anyone know anything about these Conures?

Yes, they are hybrids between nanday and a sun conures, and as such they will display either species traits. I personally would never support the breeding of hybrids, because I think species should be left alone (that is not to say I would not rehome or rescue one, but I would never support a breeder). It is not the same thing as mixing dog breeds (who are all the same species), Nanday and sun conures are not even in the same genus.

I dont know anything about them, but that sure is a gorgeous bird. I have a sun conure and if that one is anything like my sun it will be a great bird.

I'm not a fan of hybrids either, But every bird deserves love and attention...no matter what!

Nanday conure and sun conure hybrid, may show traits of both species. Both are fairly loud, so the nansun would be no different. Should be quite playful, as all conure species seem to be.

He is very cute!

I was wondering if they were the same species or not? Thank you everyone for your help.

They are certainly not the same species (and like I said, not even the same genus). They are as different as humans and chimps.

As to this statement:

While I agree that every bird should be loved, we need to stand as a group to prevent breeders from allowing hybrids to exist, as a moral obligation. They need to be boycotted, it is as simple as that. If people continue to adopt them, they will not stop the practice of breeding. I don't want this to turn into a hybrid argument, so I will stop here.

I agree with you totally Barb. I too wish they would do something about it. Eventually if they kept it up, it would become hard to get a pure species. People go on buying them up and as long as there is a call for it the breeders do it.

My personal opinion is that hybridising degrades the pure stock, and down the line it can dilute it. It makes it difficult for breeders to trust what they're collecting as 'pure stock' because you might have 5 generations of pure, with 1 other type, and you've now reduced the 6th and onward generations as 'tainted' to be brutal with the term.

However, regardless of its pedigree, even if it's a cross between a conure and a spider monkey; all birds deserve a home and love. That's a big catch 22. Don't support hybrids by not getting them, and then what happens to the birds? It'd be a shame to put the onus on these babies just because the breeder wasn't willing to pair her stock up properly. If anything, the breeder should be giving them away to good homes, with a stipulation that they're pets only. The most we can hope for, is to continue to further the education of the smaller breeders out there that breeding is fine, but please keep them pure stock. More education at all levels, from new bird owners, to children, to established breeders, to pet shops. Make hybridising a frowned upon thing without the animosity focused on the end person; the bird owner.

That said, that little nansun is beautiful and he'd be beautiful if he were solidly beige -and it will make a wonderful edition to your family, no doubt. Suns and Nandays are close enough in personality and volume lol, that you shouldn't have any extremes - which is, I think, what you wanted to know.

Just please don't breed 'em. ;)

I am wondering if it was a mistake..... I noticed that now she is also selling Suns for $650. and the Nansuns for only $450. And no Nandays at all??? so it might have been an error.
