Ok. Here are a few main reasons.
1. They are loud. Not extremely loud but it pierces your ears if they scream on your shoulder and your neighbors might get irritated. 2. They are messy. Just like any bird, there food and poop lands up on the floor. 3. You are committing to the bird for at least 25 years with a conure. If you don't think you can handle such a long commitment maybe start out with a smaller bird. hope these help and good luck choosing. Also. What type of conure are you considering?

Ok. Well I have a Jenday. And I believe there is some sort of order that these conures go in of loudness. Its something like this-
Sun Jenday Sunday Nanday Green cheeks are for the most part quiet. Soemthing like that. However, all birds have their own personality and can be different that what people say there species is known for.

One thing is do not think it is something pretty to look at (you don't seem that way). Birds need LOTS of attention. They have behavior problems etc. I have a Green Cheek Conure and she is a handful sometimes but I love her. She is an attention hog. When I am home she is out of her cage hanging out on me/around me. I suggest for your first bird to get a Green Cheek Conure if you are going to choose from the conure family. They are less noisy than say a Sun Conure - which is popular because of how pretty they are. My Green Cheek Conure hardly screams at all and when she does it is not very loud - she only does it at other birds outside mostly. My first bird was a cockatiel and I thought that was a perfect first bird. My Green Cheek Conure is certainly more maintenance but I think a responsible first time bird owner could handle her. Good luck - but again I really suggest a Green Cheek Conure (not just because I own one). They are small, manageable, pretty, quiet and FULL of personality.

I think everyone's pretty much covered everything when it comes to conures. But just out of curiosity, have you ever owned a bird before? I'm just asking because I don't want to sit here and rattle off some of the birdie basics when you already know them. :)
But as side note, I just wanted to say I like your username.

I have a pineapple green cheek. She was my first bird and I feel a great choice. She is quiet and affectionate. Like with all birds she went through a testing period where she was a little nippy but we worked through it. I just love her, she gets sweeter every day. She helped us get comfortable with birds to the point that we were able to adopt a second larger bird (timneh african grey) One thing I would say is that I have heard (from my birds breeder who breeds both gcc and suns) that if you have a very busy house with lots going on, a sun might enjoy that more than a gcc. We have such a house but I couldn't deal with the high pitch and volume of the suns call. Georgia is very quiet comparatively and when she does call, it doesn't strike me as loud or obnoxious at all. We've worked on socializing her to many things and people so she's be comfortable in our household and so far its worked. Good luck on your decision.
