Colorful Conure

I saw the most beautiful Conure today in a pet shop. He was in a small cage with no sign about him or anything so I don't know what kind he was, but I know it was a Conure of some sort. He was so colorful, I mostly remember a lot of purple and green, and I think he had some red too. Does anyone have any idea as to what kind of Conure this may have been? I can't find anything that looks like it online, so if anyone knows what it may have been I'd really appreciate any pictures. I've had my first and only bird, a male Eclectus, for almost 2 weeks now and I guess I've joined the many who can't stop at just one bird! I won't be getting one anytime soon, but I hope to eventually have my own Conure and this was one of the most stunning birds I've ever seen.

Maybe a Painted Conure? It sounds like one of the Pyrrhuras, maybe even a Maroon Belly. It would help to see a pic, maybe you can go back and get one?

hmm... purple? could only think of a painted.... if more red and green, then tara's right on with suspecting a pyrrhuras species

Hmm... I really don't know. I've never seen anything like it before, it had a lot of purple! If next time I go I'll definitely snap a picture and put it up here. Thanks for the help, any other ideas?

I'm sure it wasn't a Lory. It actually looked kind of like that crimson bellied/pearly Conure, except darker purple. That's the closest I've seen to it. I'm thinking that may be it, but I'm still not sure. I hope I get to see it again!

well... depends - there are some conures species (such as the painted) that are not very successfully bred, and therefore quite pricey - too bad, you got me curious... maybe the people at the store would know what kind he was if you ask.

They probably don't even know... When I was there yesterday a guy asked how much the Conure cost and the lady said "the what?" and the guy said "this Conure" and she said "oh, the bird?". It's one of those shops that doesn't seem to know anything about the animals or even really care about them. Today when I went there was a Cockatoo who was so sweet. He let me pet him, was so cuddly, and even said hi back to me. His food bowl only had a couple of already shelled seeds and his water bowl was about 1/2" full of murky water. Anyway, I'm just saying I don't think they will be much help. The people here seem to know way more! I think it may have possibly been either a Painted or Crimson Bellied/Pearly.

I saw a "fancy" green cheek conure once. It was very colorful and very beautiful as well as more expensive.
