space and volume?

hello,
i was wondering if a GCC is suitable bird for appartments? as far as noise is cincerned. and also how big of a cage you all would reccomend if i got one? i see alot of people saying a so so size is ok cause ill be taking him out every day but others say bigger is better so i was wanting some people with experience with that. the noise question is the same thing , some tell me they are not loud at all and some say they can get really loud. i know that really depends on the bird itself and its personality but i was wondering again what people who actually live with the birds have to say. i also have a budgie who talks a little bit, would that be a problem?

a GCC is definantly an excellent apartment bird and a great starter bird too! the bigger the cage the better.. i would def not go any smaller than 22" x 22" by 36" and that should be the absolute smallest. GCCs are some of the more quiet birds out there in my opinion.. even when they scream, its not as loud as most other birds. having a chatty budgie should be no problem, i would just strongly advise about not putting them in the same cage together. (although i dont think u planned on it)

if theres anything else you need to know, just ask.. hope this helps a little

I also think GCCs are great apartment size birds. I have two who share a cage and Happy Hut. They aren't very noisy at all. The only time they yell is when I make "tweet tweet" sounds at them. I guess they just want to tell me to shut up. Other than that they are mostly quiet. Their cage is 22x24 but they don't spend much time in there during the day. I have little play areas set up for them all over. GCC are a great choice!!!!

I heartily agree, GCCs are perfect apartment pets. I doubt my neighbors even know he's here. Rigel only gets loud if I get him all worked up talking in my funny voice, or if something makes an annoying noise, and he calls briefly when hubs comes home. Not sure why but Rigel only does this for him, not me and not when its both of us coming home. Maybe he's trying to warn me or something. They do get along, no jealousy or aggression and they will chatter through the cage before hubs leaves for work.

He's practically silent in the morning. We've developed a sort-of contact call for when I go to another room, it involves me making a kissing sound and him replying with his usual quiet "quack." None of the screeching I've heard of with other birds. Quieter than the budgies I had as a kid.
