Introducing Tingo

Well, here he is--my introduction into the wonderful world of sun conures. My wife and kids got him for me as a late 40th present (breaking the oft-spoken rule in our house that you never buy a critter as a birthday present--I'm not complaining though!).

Tingo was hatched 17 March of this year which also happens to be my birthday. His name is an Easter Island world meaning "to take evewrything you want from a friend's home, one item at a time, by borrowing them." Given the curious nature of the lil guy, I thought it fit.

Enough talk! On to pics!

Aww! I remember when mine was that green. Very cute.

I like the name. It's very appropriate considering how many time Turtles has "borrowed" my stuff . . . laptop keys, remote control buttons, pen caps, papers, orange juice out of my glass . . .

At the moment he seems most interested in borrowing my fingernails--he wraps his beak around one and pulls. (I notice the board doesn't have a smilie for "arrgh! The bird just causes indescribable pain!" I'm thinking this is an oversight. . . .

Ahh, good ole Chinese Conure Torture. Mine tries to bend my nails backwards though. Try not to let him beak your fingers. Whenever mine does that I give him a foot toy or something else to chew on. If he does get ahold of a nail/finger, I tell him no bite and shoot the mom look.

Thanks, I'll bear it in mind. He's beaking everything right now of course--fingers, ears, shirts--anything he thinks he can get away with. He's quite gentle, but I know I can't count on that continuing when he gets older. I've been folding origami, so maybe I can distract him with that.
