One bird vs. two?
We've thought lately of possibly getting another conure. We just absolutely love our Frankie so much and would love to double that!
My question is, how is it to have 2 birds rather than one? We would have to cage them together (plenty of room... Frankie has the Taj Mahal). I've heard their personalities change and they want nothing to do with you because they have eachother. But I see many of the posters here have more than one bird. Do most birds of the same size get along well? Then again, Frankie gets mad at his own reflection. :) Thoughts and opinions?

If you plan on getting a second conure, or any bird for that matter, you have to plan on housing them in a second cage. No guarantee that they will get along with each other, even if you get the same species they may not work out together in the same cage.
You are correct that the behavior may change, if they form a strong bond together they may want nothing to do with you, this is not always the case but it can happen. |

they will need a cage each or a cage that can be divided,i have three birds and none of them get along well enought to even sit on the same playstand peacefully for more than a few minutes, let alone the same cage.

You need to be prepared for the possibilities that the birds won't like each other. Before I brought my second bird home, I was prepared for the birds not being friends (even though that was clearly ideal)... what I wasn't prepared for was that they seem to HATE each other. They can't be out at the same time, or Stewie (the flighted one) goes kamikaze on Mika. Do you have the time an energy to devote to multiple birds separately? Just something to be aware of.

Hmmmmm...
The more I think about it, we'll probably stick with just one bird for now. I thought it would be easy to cage them together. Also, we camp about 10 times during the year. Frankie's cage fits in the camper, but a second would be out of the question! So I guess Frankie will continue to be an only fid. :)

My pet birds get a couple of hours a day to play together, then they go in different cages in different rooms. Mainly because I want the pets to remain pets and totally bonded with their human of choice.
A lot of people are able to keep two bonded birds as close, loving pets, but I don't want to take the chance of being the third wheel. So, they get bird time together, but not enough to start up and maintain a deep bond.
