Orthopedic Issues...

Our four month-old Nanday has feet that appear extra large. He's "all feet" if this can adequately describe him. It's almost as if his feet are too big for him to get around. When he walks, he's like Big Bird. All amusement aside at the images this description might conjure, are baby birds ever "all feet?" Is it ever said that they must grow into their feet?

We are boarding the birds over the weekend and they'll get check-ups from their vet but I was just wondering if this is anything to be concerned about.

Thanks!
Laura

Hi ROYJOY,

Here's a video of Sunny walking. I took it this morning. Hope you can see what I mean!

PS I heard they're canceling John from Cincinnati!

That looks like normal conure walking to me. Baby suns do the same style. The more he perches the straighter his feet will get. Nothing wrong with him.

They look like perfectly good feet to me. I don't have a conure, but you should see Whiteboy walking on the ground. It's hilarious. I bet they have big feet so that they can grip branches in the jungle. Whiteboy can grip the side of a 2 to 3" wide manzanita branch that is vertical and climb on up to his perch.
Sunny was following you when you were trying to film him. He sure makes a cute little squawk.

Thanks so much, 2horse! Appreciate it!

Thank you, Lee! I do appreciate you taking a look at him. Would love to see Whiteboy walking. Yep, Sunny would go with me everywhere if I let him. He follows me and if I'm by his cage, he'll leap onto my shoulder. He's a little love!

Thank you for looking, Bee and ROYJOY. I am glad everyone's assessments point toward Sunny being normal.

LOL!!!! Casey suffers from the same issue! (So to speak) Her feet always seem to big for her body! But anyone else and their feet fit just fine! It's like she's got clown feet!

Of course, as far as conures go (and many parrots), it's normal for them to be walking "pigeon toed". If a parrot were to walk the length of a perch "head on" (i.e. not sideways) then they'd put one foot in front of the other and grip the perch in that sort of manner... which may help explain why they walk similarly while on a flat surface.
