No wider than 3/4 of an inch is what I read. Ideally 1/2 inch. My cage is 3/4 though and is perfect. Don't think she could stick her head through the bars.

3/4 may NOT work if you are measuring between bars (may if measuring midbar to midbar and bars are large).

I know this from personal, VERY SCARY, experience!

But OTOH... my cage may be 1" between. I will have to actually measure.

My cage is 3/4 of a inch from bar to bar, the actual space would be less. It seems perfect for Chloe as she can actually get her foot so that toes are on two bars at same time when climbing.

Mine are 1". Their out of their cage so often though that they would never attempt to stick their heads out of the bars.

I use and would strongly reccomend:

Small Conure Pyrhurra 1/2 "
Large Conure Aratinga 5/8" to 3/4"

LOL they would only stick their heads out of the bars when your not looking (or out).... they do that kinda thing. Better safe that sorry.
