Question I am a little worried about my babies.

I noticed that they are always sleeping is that normal? I hear them chirping alot and they sound very happy but why are they not moving is it because they are still too young. They look healthy their feathers are showing, I will try to post a picture. I called the biggest bird "Big Bird" he hatched on Aug 16, 2008. I just want them to be healthy.

The first picture is Big Bird he just plops on my hand is that normal? He looks good maybe I am just a worry wart! The second pic is all 3 babies and they are all just laying there. 3rd pic is Peaches being protective. Oops the 4th pic was a slip those are my other babies Rex (mixed terrier) Nena (Yorkie) and Rosie (Momma Yorkie). 4th pic is Rainbow being protective while Peaches is inside with babies.

I also wanted to ask is it necessary for me to use gloves when I handle my babies? My husband thinks if I do not wear gloves Peaches will abandon the baby because it will know that someone has touched it, is this true? I sound like an idiot. Anyway I hope someone can answer my questions. Until then, have a good one all.

It's me again, DeeLo

I was looking at my babies they are up and ready to eat. I guess they sleep alot when they are babies, kind of like every baby on earth huh. Well I am happy to see them chirping loudly and asking for food. I am new to this bird baby stuff. I hope to learn alot here, so far no one is talking to me.

Babies def sleep ALOT. As long as they are plump and look to be eating well... I wouldn't worry. Easier said than done though, trust me I know all about that.

As for the gloves.... I don't use them.... I just wash my hands alot. Some people prefer to use them, some people don't.

First, don't worry if you don't get answers right away. A lot of people work, or sleep in, or feed babies or... any number of things. Just be patient and someone will answer!

Babies do three things before they're 'mostly feathered' - eat, sleep and poop. Sometimes they try to do all three at the same time. As for gloves, I only use gloves on day 1 babies if there's been a problem with the hatch, otherwise, I just wash my hands really well with a betadine scrub for the first week, and soap/water for the second on after.

Thanks Tina I appreciate your response. I was worried for a while. I believe I am keeping Big Bird he is just too cute. I am going to have to sell the other 2, if I could I would have a whole house full of birds. But I can't.
