Blue Crown Conure?

I know for a fact that someday I'd like to get another conure. Not soon or anything, but probably in 2-3 years since I'm still in school. I'm concerned that I wouldn't have enough time to dedicate to all my fids and felines and my studies, so I've decided to wait.

While I'm waiting, I've been considering different conure species and I'm kinda leaning toward the Blue Crown Conure. Does anyone have experience with them? Do they generally get along with other birds? How large of a cage do they require? Would the bars of a hq flight cage be too flimbsy? How much louder would they be than a peach front, green cheek or a sun?

I have a really good blue crown breeder about 2 hours from me, and she has lots of great testimonials. Her handfed, socialized babies are $460. Is that a good price?

Thanks in advance!

I have one.

Along with a Mitred, a GCC... and have had suns.

Arrive at the right time on a moderate night and I will GIVE you the BCC, come on a bad night and I will pay you to take him!

To prepare for a BCC:
Find a 2 year old very musically un-inclined child you can borrow. One that has no fear of loud noises. Hand him a metal kazoo (the really loud professional sort), a cheap tin bugle, and a fire alarm with a test button. Let him go to it. He can play as long as he likes... and start and stop if he wishes. If you have other birds (I see you do)... have the kid bring some friends along to start a "band" that follows his lead if they want to. Always have him initiate the songs though... so that you can then love the other kids for trying so hard to behave. Oh... have one of the kids stand right by your ear so that when he all of a sudden starts playing it both scares the crap out of you and makes your ear ring. This will simulate the GOOD birdie that was sitting on your shoulder.

I suppose I could say that he is sweet, never bites, and is talking a bit.

The one I have is a rescue… and due to their normally rather timid nature he is not a trusting and loving little fellow yet. He has just now finally stopped launching to the back of the cage and clinging there in fear while I so much as change the food and water. But he is very sweet once you get him out (this usually involves a towel) and has never bitten even though he is molting and prickly as all get out! LOL

My BCC is very well behaved, loves to snuggle and will take a shower with you anytime. He's just a baby though, hope he never becomes a monster :) Gets tired by 9 and needs to get back in his happy hut.

He will say hello 500,000 times when you walk in the house or squack until you come say hi though. He can get pretty loud.

We take him out for fresh fruit every morning and first thing when we get home. He's also got a very large cage. Not sure if that makes the difference.

I am on my second one. I LOVEES them. They are smart, silly, affectionate, inquisitive and INFECTIOUS little birds. They are also loud, demanding and quite obnoxious. But after losing my first one back in January, I couldnt wait to find another one. Even with four Macaws in the house it was still too quiet LOL. Now things are getting back to normal. I cant ever see myself not having one. I cant say enough.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone! It's given me more to think about... :)

Would you personally consider blue crowns to be louder than suns?

A different kind of loud maybe.... but they have such funny personalities.
I am sorry, I just love mine. The one I lost (Roxie) and the one I have now (Keeva). The personality out-shines the noise for me.

It depends.... I know two. One was brought up in a bad household... where he was always calling out for attention because it was the only way he could get it. And he was pretty loud!! The other was seriously the quietest bird in the flock. It depends on their individual personality and their upbringing I think.
People say Hahns macaws are loud and my parrotlets are louder than mine!!!
I love their characters! They are very smart and clever birds! I am desperate to add one to my bird family as soon as we move out of the house!

I love my bcc. He is pretty sassy and has a little attitude but I too will probably never be without a bcc. His tude is probably my own fault lol. Whenever my husband calls my name or comes home I give him a little attitude and am always like what or what do you want from me all dramatic lol. So now sometimes when I say hi to my bcc he goes WHHAAATTT and then laughs. Besides that he loves to give kisses and loves to be played with. He is currently going through a nippy phase of his life and I hope it ends soon cause I do not have much more skin left for him to keep doing this lol. Also they require or atleast my guy requires tons of toys to keep him busy. He enjoys to take things apart or toys that have multiple things to do.

He is not very noisy at all. Everyone tells me how he is quiet and so well behaved. I am sure most of that is just his personality as a baby he was always more quiet then the other bccs. They would be screaming their heads off and he would just sit there and normally make talking noises. Only time he gets really really loud is when we bring him to visit the breeder we bought him from and the women who bought one of the siblings is there with her little guy. Then they could probably be heard for blocks cause normally they set the macaws off too lol.
