Post just making sure

i have a sun conure (actually my girlfriends)
and she/he was noisey
so i planned to get him/her a parakeet as a buddy
and now there best pals and even sleep in the same hammock

is there reason to worry about the possibility of breeding between them

ive read that parakeets and conures are closely related

I never heard of that happening. I don't think it is possible. You are fortunate they like each other. My two birds are mortal enemies.

Related?

One is from South America... other from Aussie! You need a new source of info.

Glad it is working out for you!

oh i didnt know they were from different continents

i read that they were both a type of parakeet
but i guess ill have to rely on better sources

so is it normal for them to get along like they are

the conure kinda pushes the parakeet out of the way but they do sleep in the same hammock and even clean each other

ill go do more research

I wouldn't say it's normal. In all honesty, they shouldn't be caged together because of the size difference. They may pretend they get along now, but that conure could easily kill that budgie. Especially once they start to mature. Maybe some time together out of cage watched closely, but I'd definitely have separate cages for them to live in. New birds should always be quarantined and gradually introduced to potential playmates.

i have a parakeet in with a patagonian conure (shes about 20" long so shes pretty big) and a quaker and they get along fine

well the parakeet does with everyone else
my conure is a curmudgeon so...lol

and my little macaw is probably moving in with them as well...so i dont see anything wrong with their relationship

BTW...

Parakeet basically means "hookbill with long tail feathers".

There are parakeets from EVERYWHERE!

What kind of parakeet???? Is it a budgie? Or another type of conure? or?

Got pictures?

Parakeet means any small parrot with a long tapering tail.
